Hue Royal Tombs and Incense-Making Village

  • Start the tour with pick-up from your hotel in Hue city centre and set out with your tour guide to visit the royal tombs of Hue.

  • Your first stop is the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, who had 600 concubines, 142 children, and 78 sons. The tomb leans against the mountains and faces the head of the Perfume River. Your tour guide will also share a scary secret that may not be found in guidebooks or on the internet.

  • Continue to the tomb of Khải Định, the 12th Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. Although it is the smallest tomb, it is also known as the most expensive and beautiful in the Nguyen dynasty's tomb system and in the world. It is also considered one of the important new heritage sites in the world.

  • Next, visit the royal tomb of Tự Đức, the 4th Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. Constructed between 1864 and 1867, it is the most popular and impressive of the royal mausoleums. Emperor Tự Đức designed it himself for use both before and after his death. The enormous expense of the tomb and the forced labour used in its construction led to a coup plot that was discovered and suppressed. Tự Đức's tomb is located 5 km south of Hue on Vạn Niên Hill in Dương Xuân Thượng village.

  • On the way back to your hotel, stop at an incense-making village to learn how to make incense and frankincense by hand with the locals. You will also get to keep what you make as a souvenir.
