Day 01

Yehliu Geopark, Ocean World or Ju Ming Museum, and Jinshan Coast

  • Start the tour by meeting your North Taiwan tour guide and visiting Yehliu Geopark, a unique natural landscape shaped by ocean water and wind erosion, which has given the rocks their candle-like forms. At the geopark, see the Queen's Head, formed through 30 years of erosion and becoming more and more slender.

  • Choose one of the following two options:

    • Option 1: Visit Yehliu Ocean World, the first ocean world in Taiwan, where you can see different marine animals and oceanic species.

      • Watch shows such as the dolphin show or sea lion show.

      • Try the springboard diving and walk through the ocean tunnel, which takes you on a journey through the amazing ocean world and lets you see how these special creatures live underwater.

      • Enjoy a planned performance in an auditorium with a capacity of over 3,000, featuring startling high-jumping water presentations held at irregular intervals, along with cute and smart dolphins, mischievous sea lions, and other spectacular performances.

      • Visit the Sea Animal Exhibition Hall and see the original forms of many sea ecological environments.

    • Option 2: Visit the Ju Ming Museum, named in memory of world-renowned Taiwanese artist Ju Ming.

      • Tarry at Dharma Drum Mountain, which, despite its relatively short history, has already become one of Taiwan's four largest Buddhist centres.

      • Visit the Mysterious Coast in the northeast of Taiwan, located along the coastline of Jinshan District, New Taipei City. This area was once restricted for military purposes. It was opened to the public only a few years ago and became a popular destination among locals after a scene from the 2016 movie "Silence," directed by Martin Scorsese, was filmed here.

More information about the attractions:

  • Remember to have a glimpse of the Queen's Head at Yehliu Geopark, as it may vanish in the future because of erosion.

  • Yehliu Ocean World: The Sea Animal Museum also stores samples of many precious sea animals and uses simple language to explain basic information about the sea to everyone. You can enjoy your time and have an unforgettable oceanic experience in this excellent ocean world.

  • Ju Ming Museum: Housing primarily his works, the museum also displays works from other artists who had an impact on Ju Ming's life, works by those who inspired him, and works by those whom he inspired. Born in Tongxiao, Miaoli in 1938, Ju Ming, also known as Chu Chuan Tai, is an art master in Taiwan. Ju Ming Museum is surrounded by lush forests, ample space, and endless views. Next to Jin Mountain (Jinshan), Ju Ming Museum is Taiwan's largest outdoor art museum. The spacious museum presents Ju Ming's creative works from 1987 to 1999. Master Ju Ming himself participated in locating, designing, and constructing this museum. After being exhibited in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, and Luxembourg, Ju Ming's works were shipped back to Taiwan and are now presented in this outdoor museum. With 50 years of extensive experience at home and abroad, art master Ju Ming's creations are displayed at Ju Ming Museum, a place worth visiting for art lovers.

  • Dharma Drum Mountain: Dharma Drum Mountain advocates the concept of Buddhism as part of life and is also the first Buddhist society to encourage the practice of environmentally sustainable ash burial. Besides adopting traditional Zen practices, Dharma Drum Mountain's founder, Master Sheng Yen, also consolidated the doctrines of Indian Buddhism, Chinese Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism into a new school of Chinese Buddhism called the Chunghwa (Chinese) Zen Dharma Drum Sect. When the building known as the Underground Palace was completed in 1996, over three hundred works of Buddhist scripture and other artefacts from around Taiwan were redeposited inside, making it the first underground museum to showcase Taiwan's Buddhist heritage and usher in a new era in Taiwan's Buddhist cultural legacy.
