Embark on an 8-day journey through Madagascar from Antananarivo to the dramatic landscapes of Bekopaka and Morondava. Travel through the rural scenery of the Central Highlands, visit an aluminium foundry in Ambatolampy, and cross rivers by motor ferry on the way to Tsingy de Bemaraha. Explore the Manambolo gorge by traditional canoe, discover caves and limestone formations, and continue to Kirindy Reserve, home to the giant jumping rat and several lemur species. The experience ends with the sacred baobabs and an amazing sunset on the famous Baobab Avenue.

This is probably the most rewarding half-day trip within the park, as it goes deep into the limestone forest, passing through several hanging bridges with impressive karstic formations below your feet.

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Antananarivo

Have a meet and greet by the team at the international airport of Antananarivo and transfer to your hotel.

Overnight on bed and breakfast at Louvre Hotel & Spa (4-star)

Day 02

Drive through the Central Highlands to Antsirabe

After breakfast, depart for Antsirabe via National 7, passing through the rural landscapes of the Central Highlands with their rice fields and tiny traditional houses built in red adobe.
Make a short stop in the village of Ambatolampy, located at the foot of the Ankaratra massif, to visit the aluminium foundry, which produces aluminium kitchen utensils, among other things.
After the visit, continue to Antsirabe with your Madagascar tour guide.

Overnight and compulsory half board at Plumeria Hotel (3-star)

Day 03

Journey via Betafo and Miandrivazo to Morondava

Have breakfast and depart for Morondava through Betafo and Miandrivazo.
Arrive in Morondava at the end of the afternoon.

Day 04

Overland to Bekopaka by ferry crossings

Savour breakfast at the hotel and depart for Bekopaka, passing by Tsimafana.
Cross the Tsiribihina River by motor ferry before arriving in Belo sur Tsiribihina.
Then continue through an arid landscape to Bekopaka.
Go across the last river, the Manambolo, by motor ferry before reaching Bekopaka.
At the end of the afternoon, arrive in Bekopaka.

Day 05

Manambolo Gorge canoe trip and Big Tsingy exploration

After breakfast, embark on a traditional canoe trip along the Manambolo gorge, combined with an easier path through caves, stalactites, stalagmites, and the famous family tomb of the Vazimba tribe.
After the Manambolo Gorge, depart to explore the big Tsingy de Bemaraha. The entrance to the big Tsingy park is located 17 km from your hotel and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach by road.
Upon arrival, receive a short briefing about the trail and then begin your discovery. This is probably the most rewarding half-day trip within the park, as it goes deep into the limestone forest, passing through several hanging bridges with impressive karstic formations below your feet. The trail is not technically difficult and even children can cope with it, but you certainly should not suffer from vertigo. The sight below the hanging bridges is something to avoid for the faint-hearted.

Day 06

Kirindy Reserve and sunset at Baobab Avenue

After breakfast, depart for Morondava via Belo sur Tsiribihina and Tsimafana.
Before reaching Morondava, stop at Kirindy Reserve. The Kirindy Forest Station is one of Madagascar's most threatened ecosystems. The reserve is a dry deciduous forest famous for the giant jumping rat, but it is also home to seven species of lemur and a number of endemic reptiles.
After the visit, continue to the sacred baobabs, the Baobabs in Love.
Finish the day's journey by visiting the famous Baobab Avenue. Wait for the amazing and emotional sunset before reaching Morondava.

Day 07

Flight back to Antananarivo

Depending on your flight, you will be transferred to Morondava Airport for your return to Antananarivo.
Arrive in Antananarivo, where you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 08

Free morning and departure

Enjoy a free morning.
On the way to the airport, stop at the handicraft market for shopping before your international flight back home.

The flora of Kirindy is equally unusual - a number of unique species are found in Kirindy Forest. The remaining species are nocturnal: the rare Coquerel's giant mouse lemur and pygmy mouse lemur, fork-crowned lemur, Gray mouse lemur, western fat-tailed dwarf lemur, and red-tailed sportive lemur. Several bats, tenrecs, mongooses, and rodents complete the mammal population. Forty bird species, 50 reptile species, and 15 amphibian species are also found in this magnificent forest.
