7-Day Huayhuash Trekking Tour from Huaraz with Siula Lakes and Hot Springs

• Meet your guide and spend the day settling in, or visit nearby lakes, natural tourist attractions, and local artisans.

• Visit the community region where the guides will donate the contributions made by you.

Return to your Huaraz hotel by 7 p.m.

• Pack your bags and leave for Llamac on a 5-hour drive, crossing the wild Puna Conococha pass and the southernmost peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. As you descend to Llamac, see the Huayhuash range, which contains seven of the highest and most dramatic summits in a single cluster in Peru.

• Continue up through the Pocpa valley and reach the peasant town of Pocpa at 3600 masl. It is the last town in this valley where you can buy some soda drinks to get through the sunny day.

• Arrive in Pallca at 1 p.m. and have lunch.

• Reach your camping site at Matacancha after a half-hour walk and see Ninashanca Mountain (5607 masl) and Rondoy (5870 masl).

Overnight camping at Cuartelhuain (4200 masl).

• Have breakfast, get ready, and start your trek at 8 a.m. The trek will be challenging, as climbing to the pass will take about 2 to 3 hours. From the pass, go down, then climb again for approximately 30 minutes, spotting the Andean rabbits called vizcachas along the way.

• Reach the next pass and enjoy views of white-peaked mountains such as Yerupaja, Jirishanca, and Siula.

• Arrive at your camp at approximately 5 or 6 p.m., with the campsite facing the lake. Camp at 4150 masl after covering 8.7 miles (18 km) in 10 hours of trekking.

• Have breakfast at 8 a.m. and begin your trek to see the three different-coloured lakes of Siula Lake.

• Head to Siula Pass (4850 masl) and have lunch next to the Carnicero lakes.

• Descend and arrive at the camping place after covering 13.8 km in 8 hours of trekking. Camp at 14,355 ft.

• Have breakfast and continue your trek to the Portachuelo de Huayhuash Pass, from where you will descend to the campsite at Viconga for lunch.

• Walk 20 minutes downhill from the campsite to the hot springs, or rest at camp for the afternoon. The campsite will be at 4390 masl after covering 11 km in 5 to 6 hours of trekking, at 14,480 ft.

• Eat breakfast at the campsite in Viconga and depart along the valley, where the landscape matches the natural colours of dark hills, white snow peaks, and the blue sky.

• Walk along the valley and begin hiking to the pass for Cajatambo (4700 masl), where you will have the last view of the Huayhuash mountains.

• Continue walking down for about two hours to Cajatambo, arriving around 2 p.m. for lunch and accommodation in a hostel.

• Have lunch and walk around Cajatambo village after covering 12 km in 6 hours of trekking.

Have dinner and stay for the night at camp (3375 masl).

• Enjoy early hot drinks at a restaurant or hostel restaurant at around 5 a.m., as the bus departs for Lima at 6 a.m.

• Board the bus and travel along the dark hills down to the coastal area. Witness the climate change as you descend to sea level.

• Arrive at Pativilca, a village at sea level in the coastal area, and take the Pan American Highway to reach the city of Barranca, where you will have lunch.

• Drive directly to Lima or Huaraz, depending on your starting point, and reach the hotel.
