The journey
Go on a Pre-Inca Trail trek on this 4-day tour from Huaraz to Chavín de Huántar. Hike through the Rio Negro Valley, cross high Andean landscapes, and reach the highest point of the trail at Punta Yanashallash. Along the way, explore surprising areas, including Quechua villages, before visiting the impressive Chavín Pre-Inca ruins complex and its museum.

Day by day
Arrive in Huaraz and meet your official trekking guide. Dedicate the day fully to acclimatization.
Stay overnight.
Have a refreshing breakfast in Huaraz, get picked up from your hotel, and transfer to the trailhead of Canrey Chico (3350 masl), about 30 km south of Huaraz.
Meet the donkey drivers and pack horses, load the trekking equipment, and start hiking along the Rio Negro Valley toward the eastern side and the white mountains.
Ascend to the Sacracancha campsite (5-6 hrs) as you go up the valley through some of the nicest landscapes.
Set up the tents.
Overnight at around 4090 masl.
Enjoy an Andean breakfast at the campsite and start hiking through a pasture area in the highlands.
Hike up to the highest point of the trail at Punta Yanashallash, 4800 m (5-6 hrs).
Walk down along the zig-zag, stone-paved Pre-Inca Trail, preserved in its natural position as the Pre-Incas built it with stones. This is the entrance to the sacred capital of Chavín.
Arrive at the campsite at Shongo, 4088 m.
Dinner and overnight.
Enjoy a wonderful sunrise at the campsite. The trek starts after an energetic breakfast and passes through several small Quechua villages before arriving at Chavín de Huántar, 3090 m.
Arrive around midday in Chavín and immediately visit the huge Chavín Pre-Inca ruins complex with your Peru tour guide.
Visit the museum located a little outside Chavín on the north side.
Have lunch in Chavín.
Spend the night in a basic hotel in Chavín or return to Huaraz late in the afternoon.
