The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Mendoza and Equipment Check

  • Arrive in Mendoza and transfer to your hotel.

  • Go on introductory walks around the city and check your equipment.

Day 02

Transfer to Penitentes and Trek to Confluence

  • Transfer to Penitentes (2700 m), sending the main cargo on mules to the Base Camp.

  • Head towards the National Park entrance at Laguna Horcones and proceed to Confluence (3300 m, 2-3 hours).

Overnight at camp.

Day 03

Acclimatization Walk to Plaza de Francia

  • Go on an acclimatization radial walk to Plaza de Francia (4200 m) in the company of Argentine mountain guides, with views of the South Face (2700 m high; 4-5 hours).

  • Return to the camp.

Day 04

Trek to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp

  • Take a long walk (8-9 hours) to the main base camp, Plaza de Mulas (4350 m).

  • Follow the path that runs along the broad valley of Playa Ancha.

Overnight at camp.

Day 05

Rest at Plaza de Mulas and Climb to Orkones Glacier

  • Rest in Plaza de Mulas (4350 m) and later set off on a short climb to the Orkones glacier.

Overnight at camp.

Trek to Camp 1 at Plaza Canada

  • Trek from Plaza de Mulas to Camp 1, Plaza Canada (5000 m).

Overnight at camp.

Ascent to Camp 2 at Nido de Condores

  • Leave Plaza Canada and head towards Camp 2, Nido de Condores (5400 m).

Overnight at camp.

Climb to Cholera Camp and Descend

  • Climb to Cholera Camp (6000 m). Later, descend to Plaza de Mulas (4350 m).

Rest Day at Plaza de Mulas

  • Take a rest day in Plaza de Mulas (4350 m).

Return Ascent to Nido de Condores

  • Ascend from Plaza de Mulas (4350 m) to Nido de Condores (5400 m).

Aconcagua Summit Attempt

Know before you go

  • The expedition to Aconcagua begins in the resort town of Mendoza, also called Argentina's grape capital. This town is situated at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. On arrival in Mendoza, you can sleep and rest.
  • The first transition to Confluence Camp (3300 m) is quite simple and takes only three to four hours. Some participants complete this part of the route in 1.5 hours.
  • Climbing to the summit of Aconcagua is planned for days 12-14, depending on the weather and the participants' well-being.
  • After the ascent, you descend to the base camp and celebrate the expedition's success.
  • There are more than a thousand wineries in the city. Alpinists can participate in fine wine tastings and buy the drinks they like.
