Barcelona to Montserrat Abbey and Scenic Mountain Hike
Meet your tour guide and enjoy a short 45-minute drive in a comfortable minivan to Montserrat.
Begin your excursion with a visit to the Benedictine Abbey while learning about its amazing history. Montserrat literally means "sawed mountain" in Catalan because of its distinctive multi-peaked formation. The abbey at its summit is known as Santa Maria de Montserrat and is home to the famous Black Madonna, La Moreneta.
Then start hiking from the monastery, following a beautiful path that winds around the mountain peaks. Along the way, the many natural viewpoints offer awesome views of the abbey and the surrounding forests. Once you reach the highest point of the route, breathtaking 360° panoramic views of the multi-peaked rocky range await you. If the skies are clear, you may even be able to see the Pyrenees and much of the country.
After admiring the landscapes, taking pictures, and savouring some typical Catalan snacks, begin your descent along a shady path through the mountain forests that brings you back to the abbey.
Visit the farmers market and a souvenir shop before heading back to Barcelona.
