Dhow Cruise Through Khor Shem and Telegraph Island

  • Meet your tour guide at Khasab Port at 9:15 AM and head to your dhow.

  • At 9:30 AM, cruise into the fjords of Musandam aboard a traditionally decorated Omani dhow.

  • At 10:00 AM, visit Khor Shem, a sheltered 17 km-long fjord. The water here is crystal clear and calm, making it especially inviting for snorkelling and swimming. Admire the mountains rising out of the sea and reflecting on the water, and watch for dolphins playing alongside your boat as you cruise past nearby villages.

  • At 10:15 AM, pass Nadafi, the first village on the route. With around 50 inhabitants, mainly fishermen, the village has no land access, and speedboats are used for communication.

  • At 10:30 AM, visit Qanaha, a small fishing village where stone houses blend into the cliffs.

  • At 10:45 AM, continue to Maqlab, a mountain village where people earn their living from goat-herding and fishing.

  • At 11:00 AM, arrive at Telegraph Island, or Jazirat al Maqlab. The British laid the first telegraph cable here in 1864, running from India to Basra, Iraq, and the island was manned for about 10 years. Snorkelling here is a treat, so put on your masks and enjoy the clear, calm waters. Look out for butterflyfish and groupers, and admire the coral growth in this fjord. The dhow will be anchored at Telegraph Island for 45 minutes for swimming and snorkelling.

  • Return to Khasab Port at 12:45 PM after an exhilarating tour.
