  • Get picked up from Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Kilimanjaro. You will be met by your Tanzanian driver-guide or staff at the airport and welcomed to Tanzania.

2
Day 02

Materuni Waterfalls and Chagga Coffee Experience

  • Get picked up in Moshi in the morning and drive to Materuni Village.

  • You will register at the village office upon arrival, and your trip can begin.

  • First, visit the waterfalls, which are about a 40-minute walk away. On the way, your guide will tell you about the culture of the Chagga, village life, and the surrounding fauna and flora. The views are breathtaking, and with some luck, you will see the summit of Kilimanjaro.

  • When you reach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall is inviting for a refreshing swim, so don't forget your swimwear.

  • After enjoying the scenery, return slowly with your guide to Materuni Village, where you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch. You will also taste the local banana beer, which is not to be missed.

  • Proceed to the coffee experience. Here, you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and processed. You will also be invited to help with grinding the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga song and dance - a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture.

  • Before you say goodbye, you can savour the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest.

3
Day 03

Kilimanjaro to Tarangire National Park

  • After breakfast, depart from Kilimanjaro to Tarangire National Park. On the way, you will come across a coffee plantation and experience the scenic beauty of the landscapes as you leave Arusha town.

You will base around the Mara River area, savannah grassland, and plains, where crocodiles wait for their prey and the wildebeest gather to cross. For days, their numbers increase and anticipation grows; however, for no apparent reason, many will turn and wander away from the water's edge. Eventually, the wildebeest will choose a crossing point, which varies from year to year and cannot be predicted.

  • Stop for lunch, served in a picnic box around the river.

  • Continue the game drive after lunch.

  • Return to the camp before sundown.

Dinner and overnight at Bologonja Camp.

Know before you go

  • 13 days discovering the Northern Circuit of Tanzania.
  • Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming place is just 15 km away from Moshi town and is the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park.
  • Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a World Heritage Site, has recently been proclaimed a 7th worldwide wonder: Serengeti National Park. The park is renowned for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeests' trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant's gazelle.
  • This morning the Ngorongoro Crater awaits you. The crater is a conservation area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated 180 km west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania.
  • Let Kitonga Tours organize your safari trips to national parks and climbs on Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru.
