Explore the highlights of Bago
- Get picked up from your hotel at Yangon and take a 2-hour drive to Bago, formerly known as Hanthawaddy of Mon Kingdom, in the 15th century.
- Admire the four Giant Buddha images of Kyaik Pun Pagoda, built by King Dhammaceti in AD 1475 and the Kyat Khat Wine Monastery. In this place, many monks live while studying Buddha’s literature.
- Enjoy Myanmar cuisine in lunch at a local restaurant.
- Continue to the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated pagodas in Myanmar, 375 feet in height and see the excavation site of Kanbawzathadi, the palace of famous King Bayint Naung. Kanbawzathadi Palace site includes Bumble Bee Throne Hall (believed this throne room was used as the King’s sleeping room).
- Head over to the Royal Audience Hall, located at the center of the city wall and then to the Teak-post Museum, which displays teak-posts initially from Kambawzathadi palace site excavation.
- Visit the Hanthawaddy Archaeological Museum with an octagonal shape, showing 300 artifacts.
- Reach the Shwethalyaung Reclining Pagoda.
- Stop at Htauk Kyant War Cemetery before returning to Yangon.
