Day 01
Explore Bago's monasteries, pagodas, and royal heritage
- Get picked up from your hotel in Yangon and take a 2-hour drive to Bago, formerly known as Hanthawaddy of the Mon Kingdom in the 15th century.
- Admire the four giant Buddha images of Kyaik Pun Pagoda, built by King Dhammaceti in AD 1475, and visit Kyat Khat Wine Monastery. Many monks live and study Buddhist literature here.
- Enjoy Myanmar cuisine for lunch at a local restaurant.
- Continue to Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated pagodas in Myanmar, standing 375 feet high, and see the excavation site of Kanbawzathadi, the palace of the famous King Bayint Naung. The Kanbawzathadi Palace site includes the Bumble Bee Throne Hall, believed to have been used as the king's sleeping room.
- Head to the Royal Audience Hall, located at the center of the city wall, and then visit the Teak-post Museum, which displays teak posts originally uncovered during the Kanbawzathadi Palace site excavation.
- Visit the octagonal Hanthawaddy Archaeological Museum, which displays 300 artifacts.
- Reach the Shwethalyaung Reclining Pagoda.
- Stop at Htauk Kyant War Cemetery before returning to Yangon.
