Itinerary

1. Day 1: Flying to Khuzestan

   • Start your Khuzestan tour by arriving in Dezful or Ahvaz.

   • See Susa ancient hill and museum and Dezful old bridge.

   • Experience Iran by walking around a Choqa-Zanbil ziggurat from 2000 BC and some ancient sites in Susa.

   • Be amazed by the hydraulic system working for 2000 years in Shushtar.

   • Know how ancient watermills work at Shushtar hydraulic system. Learn more about the first civilized area in Iran.

   Distance: The duration of the flight from Tehran is 1 hour. Ahvaz to Dezful is 140km (about 2 hours)

2. Day 2: Driving to Kermanshah via Khorram-abad

   • After leaving Dezful, drive through Zagros mountains with spectacular sceneries. 

   • On the way to Kermanshah, visit Falak-al-Aflak castle and the Anthropology Museum in Khorram-Abad in Lorestan province. 

   • Then, continue to Kermanshah and just before reaching there, visit a UNESCO World Heritage site - Bisotoun inscription, which consists of an inscription from Darius the most significant era.

   • Experience the wonder by standing in awe at the spectacular landscape of Zagros mountains and meeting the Lurs, the ethnics of the western part of Iran.

   Distance: Dezful to Kermanshah is 370km (about 5 hours)

3. Day 3: Driving to Hamadan

   • Before leaving Kermanshah, look at a couple of giant Taq-Bostan bas-reliefs from the Sassanid era (300-700 AD).

   • After a couple of hours on the road, arrive in Hamedan and in the afternoon, have an excursion to visit Varkaneh stony village, where all the houses and alleys are made of original stones. Experience history by walking in narrow stone-made alleys in a village and know how proficient the Sassanians were in carving bas-reliefs.

   Distance: Kermanshah to Hamedan is 200km (about 2.5 hours); Hamedan to Varkaneh: 25 km

4. Day 4: City Tour in Hamadan

   • Start in the morning by visiting an ancient hill and roaming about at the recently discovered parts of the ancient city of Hegmataneh. Also, see a museum with precious heritages from different periods of the history of Iran.

   • Visit the Tomb of Ester, who saved the Jewish people of Iran in 500 BC.

   • Another unique place to see is the tomb of Avicenna, the famous scientist, and philosopher from the 11th century. 

   • See Hegmataneh hill, Alavian tomb, Avicenna Mausoleum, Imam square, Ester tomb, Ganjnameh inscriptions, and waterfall.

   • Experience the culture of the inhabitants of Hamedan and walk in the beautiful street of Avicenna.

   • Know the story of Ester, the Jewish saviour, and Xerxes’s wife

5. Day 5: Driving to Zanjan

   • After leaving Hamedan and spending one hour on the road, arrive in one of the most beautiful and largest water caves on earth, Ali-Sadr cave.

   • Spend a good amount of two hours in the cave by walking and riding boats. Get amazed by the size of the stalactites and crystal clear reflections on them; Marvel at the features of Alisadr cave and the peaceful space of the cave with its mysterious paths.

   • Also, on the way to Zanjan, stop to visit the largest brick-made dome in the world - Soltanieh Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a turquoise colour on it and magnificent stucco from the Mongols era.

   • Know more about how the Mongols continued their rule in Iran and their artistic contributions.

   Distance: Hamedan to Zanjan is 270km (about 4 hours)

6. Day 6: Driving to Tabriz via Takht-Soleyman

   • After checking out of your hotel in Zanjan, have a long drive to get to Tabriz.

   • After driving for a couple of hours, stop to visit another UNESCO World Heritage site, an old & important place in Iran’s history, a holy place for Zoroastrians and the kings, a complex of temples and where one of the most important holy fires was kept.

   • Next to the ancient complex is a mountain called Zendan-Soleyman which means Solomon’s prison, experience a stunning view at the top of the mount Zendan-Soleyman.

   • See Takht-Soleyman.

   Distance: Zanjan to Takht-Soleyman is 150km (about 2 hours and a half); Takht-Soleyman to Tabriz 320km (about 4.5 hours)

7. Day 7: City Tour in Tabriz

   • On your last day in the west, have a full-day experience of Tabriz. 

   • After visiting Blue Mosque with turquoise tiles and a museum full of ancient heritages, start walking in the largest Bazaar in Iran, a UNESCO world heritage site full of exciting shops and goods. Tabriz is famous for its leather and carpet industry so that you can find some souvenirs in this Bazaar. 

   • See Azerbaijan Museum.

   • In the afternoon, catch your flight to Tehran or any other place, or you can continue your journey to the other side of Iran.

   Distance: The duration of the flight from Tabriz to Tehran is 1 hour.
