Embark on an 8-day journey from Accra through Ghana's cultural and natural heritage, from feeding Mona monkeys at Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and seeing recycled glass transformed into beads at Cedi Beads to hiking Mount Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana, and enjoying beautiful Wli Waterfalls. Continue to Kumasi to explore Bonwire Kente Village, the historical Manhyia Palace, and the Sword Monument of Okomfo Anokye, then travel north to Mole National Park for a walking safari and wildlife viewing. The tour also includes Akosombo Dam and a boat cruise on Lake Volta, visits to Larabanga Mosque and Tamale Cultural Centre, and overnights in guesthouses and hotels along the way.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Cedi Beads and Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary

  • Meet your Ghana tour guide and depart from Accra shortly after breakfast for the Volta Region. En route, visit Cedi Beads, where glass bottles are recycled into beads.

  • Head to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary to play with and feed Mona monkeys. Learn about the community and how eco-tourism has contributed to the development of the village.

  • Check in to the guesthouse before dark and rest for the evening.

Day 02

Mount Afadjato Hike and Wli Waterfalls

  • Hike to Mount Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana at 885 m above sea level, in the morning. The hike takes about 3 hours maximum.

  • After the hike, proceed to Wli Waterfalls with your Ghana tour guide and spend the rest of the day enjoying time by the waterfall.

In the evening, chill out at the guesthouse.

Day 03

From Volta to Kumasi via Akosombo

  • Depart shortly after breakfast.

  • Visit Akosombo Dam, the biggest hydroelectric dam in Ghana, located on the amazing Lake Volta and producing over 1,020 MW of electrical output.

  • Have lunch on the lake and go on a boat cruise on the world's third-largest man-made lake for a side view of Ghana's hydroelectric dam.

  • Leave Akosombo shortly after the boat cruise and head to Kumasi, one of the largest cities in Ghana.

  • Check in to your guesthouse for the night.

Day 04

Kumasi Heritage and Market Experience

  • Have breakfast and depart for Bonwire Kente Village. Bonwire is popular for Kente weaving. Kente is a colourful Ghanaian traditional fabric worn mostly on important occasions and celebrations. Much of the kente cloth seen in Ghanaian markets actually comes from Bonwire.

  • Drive back to Kumasi and visit the historical Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene of Asanteman as well as his official residence.

  • Explore the Cultural Centre, the Sword Monument of Okomfo Anokye, and discover the world of modern art in a clean and comfortable museum setting.

  • Kejatia Market is your next destination, West Africa's busiest and largest open-air market. Talk with the women traders at the market and shop for cloth and local items. Here, you will have the opportunity to use your bargaining skills.

  • Return to your guesthouse before dark. In the evening, head out to experience the nightlife in Kumasi.

Day 05

Journey to Tamale and Mole National Park

  • Check out from your guesthouse, have breakfast, and spend the entire day travelling to Tamale.

  • Stop along the journey for lunch, then continue to Mole National Park, Ghana's largest national park and home to the biggest elephant in Africa.

Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Mole.

Day 06

Mole Safari, Larabanga Mosque, and Shea Butter

  • Spend the entire day exploring the national park and all that Mole has to offer.

  • Go on a morning walking safari and spot wildlife such as monkeys, elephants, warthogs, antelopes, deer, buffaloes, and more.

  • Have breakfast on your return and spend the afternoon by the poolside, viewing elephants and warthogs from a distance.

  • Later in the day, visit Larabanga Mosque, Ghana's renowned and oldest mosque. Also, learn how shea butter is made.

  • Return to the hotel before dark.

Day 07

Return to Kumasi via Tamale Cultural Centre

  • Set off early after breakfast and drive to Kumasi.

  • En route, make a stop at Tamale Cultural Centre.

  • Continue the journey with the aim of arriving in Kumasi before dark. Have dinner and overnight at a guesthouse in Kumasi.

Day 08

Departure from Kumasi to Accra

  • Return to Accra, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
