Yu Garden, Tianzifang, and Xintiandi Tour
Visit Yu Garden, once hailed as the champion garden in southeast China. The Yu, or Peaceful Garden, is a quintessential example of a traditional Chinese private garden. Also see the Bridge of Nine Turns, with a 200-year-old tea house on it.
Proceed to the City God Temple. Though not grand in size, it is complete in every detail - or as we say, "the sparrow may be small, but it has all the vital organs." It is a perfect place to give you a true idea of what a Taoist temple is like.
Head to the bazaar with your Chinese tour guide, where shops are packed with all sorts of goods that satisfy tourists' fantasy of exploring Shanghai. These include Silk Tang costume dresses, scarves, amber jewels, Laughing Buddha figures, Chinese scenery paintings, and more.
Dine at the Ata Xiaolongbao (Soup Dumplings) restaurant, which is authentically local. If you're a fan of dim sum, you will feel like you are in heaven.
Visit Tianzifang, with its old red-brick-lined residential alleyways full of boutique shops and bars that appeal to visitors.
Next, move to Xintiandi, the venue of the First National Conference of the Communist Party. It features old Shanghainese brick blocks alongside posh cafes, bars, restaurants, and boutique shops.
