4-Day Mokoro Safari in the Okavango Delta with Island Camping

Arrive at Maun International Airport, where you will be met by your Botswana guide or representative. Look out for a signboard. The tour starts in Maun and continues to the Okavango Delta. Transfer to the mokoro station by 4WD open-sided safari vehicle, a journey of about an hour, where you will meet your guide and poler.

Glide along myriad water channels in a mokoro (dugout canoe), looking for wildlife and bird species that inhabit the Delta. There are no facilities out there, as you camp on an island chosen by your guide.

On arrival, your guide will take you for a game walk, where you can enjoy awesome sightings and the sound of birdsong, followed by lunch.

After lunch, you may enjoy a siesta in camp to avoid the midday heat. Your accommodation will be a 2.4 m x 2.4 m dome tent with a comfortable bedroll and linen.

Wait for the sunset and the amazing changes in hue that give visitors so much pleasure.

At dusk, your guide will light a fire, where a chef will prepare all your meals. Please bring a hat and sunscreen, as there is no shade. The last guest determines bedtime.

An early morning game walk will be available for interested guests, returning to camp when ready to enjoy breakfast.

After breakfast, the mekoros can be retaken to enjoy the channels, with their intricate veins of waterways that interconnect the lagoons, or you may take a guided bush walk before having lunch or snacks.

In the afternoon, the guides will take you in the mekoros to a safe location where swimming is possible in the waters of the Okavango Delta, followed by a chance to learn how to pole a mokoro using the gnashi.

Time can be taken to relax and have a drink.

After the bush walk, you can relax and unwind in camp, refresh, and have dinner under the Milky Way starlit skies. Afterwards, the guides and polers will narrate cultural stories and entertain you with traditional dances that display animal tracking techniques and gathering methods for traditional medicinal purposes. Guests interested in astronomy will be treated to one of the most expansive displays of stars on earth before retiring to cosy tents for the night and drifting off to the sounds of the wild. The last guest determines bedtime.

After enjoying a stunning sunrise, soaking up the peace and serenity of the Okavango Delta, and having a light breakfast, the camp crew will break camp before departing on the downstream return trip, arriving at the boat station before lunch.

Once again, your guide will pole you along myriad water channels, looking for wildlife and bird species that inhabit the Delta. Because they believe in providing a memorable and relaxed travel experience, the journey will include periodic pauses for your viewing pleasure - all in all, simply summed up in one word: unforgettable. Once back at the boat station, transfer to your place of accommodation in Maun or to the airport, where you will catch your flight back home.
