Travel from Addis Ababa to Wenchi Crater Lake near the great Wonchi volcano for a 2-day nature escape with hiking, horseback riding, boating, and hot springs. Descend to the crater lake on foot or by horse, then take a short boat trip to a small island monastery. Continue to Woliso for an overnight stay, where you can enjoy the natural hot spring pool and explore the woodland lodge grounds. The area also offers the chance to spot Colobus monkeys and a wide variety of birdlife.

Upon arrival, either hike down to the crater lake or ride a horse to the bottom with your Ethiopian tour guide.

The itinerary

Day 01

Addis Ababa to Wenchi Crater Lake and Woliso

Leave Addis Ababa at 7 am and take a 3-hour drive to Wenchi Crater Lake.
Upon arrival, either hike down to the crater lake or ride a horse to the bottom with your Ethiopian tour guide.
Have lunch at the base of the crater, followed by a short boat ride to visit an old monastery on one of the lake's islands.
After the monastery visit, hike or ride horseback back to the top of the crater.

Overnight stay at Negash Lodge in Woliso.

Day 02

Woliso Hot Springs and Return to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, take a walk around the lodge grounds and swim in the natural hot spring pool. The lodge is set in a woodland area, so there is also a good chance to catch a glimpse of Colobus monkeys and a large variety of birdlife.
Have lunch at the lodge, followed by your departure back to Addis Ababa.
