Sepilok Wildlife Encounters and Cruise to Abai
Transfer to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre with your Sandakan guide, where orphaned and injured orangutans learn to fend for themselves before returning to the wild.
Visit Sabah's first Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC), next to the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, founded by Mr Wong Siew Te, and get a glimpse of the world's smallest bear from the observation platform.
Pick up and transfer to Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty for the boat ride to the lodge in Abai, Kinabatangan. The 1.5-hour boat ride takes you across Sandakan Bay, passing the historical Berhala Island and fishing villages.
Arrive at the lodge and enjoy lunch at the restaurant.
Walk along Sabah's longest river and look for Kinabatangan's wildlife and birds, including the famous endemic Proboscis Monkeys, wild orangutans, crocodiles, long-tail and short-tail macaques, Borneo Pygmy Elephants, and birds such as hornbills and kingfishers, in its secondary rainforest habitat and the limestone caves of Gomantong.
Observe the fireflies shimmering as evening falls before cruising back to the resort for dinner.
Take a stroll along the boardwalks with your headlamp or torch and look for nocturnal wildlife, depending on the weather conditions. This walk takes about one hour before returning to the lodge.
