Here, where old-world charm, gorgeous surroundings, wide smiles, and a warm welcome combine with modern amenities and services, you'll be made to feel right at home.
- Venture out to see the city's major landmarks and attractions, such as the botanical gardens, all of which are conveniently close by, or organise a trip into the game-rich interior, safe in the knowledge that there's a peaceful place to rest your head when you return.
- Explore the sights, sounds, and aromas of this historical port, then, after dinner, stroll down to the beachfront.
- Love a safari? Arrange an expedition to any of the country's game-rich wildlife reserves with the on-site tour operator.

Day 2: Remote Luxury at Kwihala Camp
Transfer to Kwihala Camp. This small and personal tented camp in the Ruaha National Park operates from June to March. It has all the bells and whistles available at a mobile camp. Secluded in a bushwillow thicket, just to the North of the Mwagusi Sand River, it is the perfect vantage point from which to explore the area. The camp’s location is said to be one of the best in Ruaha, being close to the water yet far enough away from other camps to create a sense of privacy. Intimate safari does not get much better than this. This land locked camp’s experiences are based on the raw untouched bush that surrounds it. You’re spoilt for choice and quality here.
Choose from day or night game drives, wonderful birding and, to top it off, some of the best and most secluded bush walks Tanzania has to offer. Nocturnal game drives reveal unusual creatures and excitement as antelope come out to feed in the cool of the night and predators take advantage of the dark to hunt.

Day 5: Safari in Katavi National Park
- Established 20 years ago on the very same site it sits today, Chada is a camp of pioneering spirit, simple luxuries and genuinely astonishing safari. Hidden in the shade of fragrant tamarind trees, the six tents are some of only a handful in the million acres of Katavi National Park, making it one of the most rewarding places to visit in East Africa. It is said that Katavi receives fewer visitors in a year than the Serengeti does in a day, but with a hauntingly beautiful landscape and seemingly endless herds of game, strongly suggest that you are one of the few.
- Days at Chada are about freedom and adventure; game drives typically depart twice a day, but are very flexible and off-road driving is also allowed which is a rare occurrence nowadays and very exciting! Also, recommend squeezing in a walking safari for some wildlife encounters of the up close and personal kind, and an all day drive to get further afield, complete with an exotic picnic to be enjoyed under the shade of the trees.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking in Mahale
- Located in the idyllic lost world that is the Mahale Mountains National Park, Greystoke Mahale is a byword for adventure. In the 1980s, explorer Roland Purcell built the first Mahale Mountains camp on the edge of the forest, captivated by his sensational surroundings and the magnificent chimpanzee population that roamed wild. Today, the camp has changed somewhat and beautiful wooden bandas have replaced the tents of old, but the magic and allure remain. This is a place where wildlife dreams come true and a hideaway that, selfishly, you hope no-one else ever discovers…Greystoke’s raison d’etre is chimps.
- There is a group of around 60 chimps that most guests set out to view. Hikes can take from 2 to 7 hours and the pathways are bumpy and sometimes steep so a general level of fitness is required. But when you catch sight of the chimps foraging in the leafy undergrowth, everything else is forgotten. This is exceptional wildlife viewing at its very, very best.
