The itinerary

1
Day 01

Stone Town Historical Walking Tour

  • Start your program with a morning walk through the historic Stone Town. This tour takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People's Palace), and the Arab Fort, among others, it offers a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar's bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals, and countless mosques.

Dinner and overnight stay at Coral Beach Resort (bed and breakfast).

2
Day 02

Snorkelling Along Zanzibar's Coast

  • Snorkelling in Zanzibar is an experience of a lifetime. Unlike many other popular snorkelling destinations around the world, it is still possible to find places along the coast that have never been explored. The many varieties of coral provide a home to thousands of colourful and exotic creatures, including blue ribbon tail rays, firefish, and, for the "Finding Nemo" fans, clownfish.

Dinner and overnight stay at Coral Beach Resort (bed and breakfast).

3
Day 03

Cycling Off the Beaten Track in Zanzibar

  • The tour starts from humble beginnings: a local guide with his bike and an aspiration to share the beautiful Zanzibar environment with others. Your Zanzibar guide will organize the trip, set the pace according to your fitness level, and show you around areas off the beaten track. The guide will reveal a side of Zanzibar beyond the usual tourist experience.

Dinner and overnight at The Nungwi Inn Hotel (bed and breakfast).

4
Day 04

Spice Tour and Jozani Forest Visit

  • Today, you will go on an excursion to the spice and fruit plantations close to Stone Town for the famous Spice Tour. The guide has developed a special spice tour with in-depth information not only about spices, but also about organically grown herbs, along with a detailed description of their traditional uses in medicine, cosmetics, and cooking.

  • After the tour, you are invited for an opulent lunch at the guide's home, where you can taste the spices and fruits.

  • After lunch, the guide will take you to your beach resort. On the way, you will pass Jozani Forest, the last habitat of the rare endemic Red Colobus Monkey.

  • With a local guide, you will stroll through Jozani Chwaka National Park and look for the rare monkeys. If you wish, you can also wander down the boardwalk to the fascinating mangrove ecosystem.

Dinner and overnight at The Nungwi Inn Hotel (bed and breakfast).

Day 05

Afternoon Dolphin Trip to Kizimkazi

  • Today, visit Kizimkazi. Situated on the southern point of the island, Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins and Humpback dolphins, which can often be sighted after a short boat trip from the village. If you are lucky, you may be able to swim quite close to the dolphins, which can be a very rewarding experience. This trip is done in the afternoon to avoid the crowds of tourists in the morning, which in large numbers disturb the dolphins.

Dinner and overnight at the Tembo Hotel (bed and breakfast).

Day 06

Snorkelling Experience in Zanzibar

Snorkelling in Zanzibar is an experience of a lifetime.

Dinner and overnight at Fumba Beach Lodge (bed, dinner, and breakfast).

Day 07

Transfer to Zanzibar Airport

Depending on your flight schedule and departure point, you will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport to take your flight back home. If you are flying out of Dar es Salaam or Nairobi, a connecting flight can be arranged for you to catch your onward flight home.

Know before you go

  • Zanzibar Beach Holiday is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean and was the political and economic key to East Africa. It comprises two main islands, Unguja and Pemba, along with smaller habitable ones. Unguja is the main island, where the Head of State is based, and is commonly referred to as Zanzibar. It is about 85 kilometers long and 39 kilometers wide. Pemba is 72 kilometers long and 25 kilometers wide. The highest point of Zanzibar is 120 meters above sea level.

  • The original Safari Blue tour (make sure you are booking the right thing!) is one of the most popular day trips from Fumba village, and a fair few other locations as well. Though not cheap, it offers a full and fascinating day including all transport, snorkelling, food, and drink. It also provides a far more nature-friendly way of possibly catching sight of some dolphins than the numerous 'Swimming with Dolphins' trips offered from Kizimkazi.
