10-Day Botswana Safari from Johannesburg with Chobe and Okavango

• Arrive at Kasane International Airport from Johannesburg. You will be met at the airport by a Botswana safari guide holding a signboard.

• The guide will take you to your hotel or lodge, where you will stay for 1 night on a bed-and-breakfast basis at your own expense.

Lunch and dinner will be at your own expense.

• Wake up early for a beautiful trip to the famous Chobe National Park. As you drive, you will notice the vegetation changing from place to place, with mopane woodlands and acacia tortilis along the way. Chobe National Park is mainly dominated by Zimbabwe teak, which is very good for making furniture. On the way, you will see many animals until you reach the Chobe enclave, which incorporates five villages.

• Arrive at Chobe National Park around lunch with your Botswana tour guide. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served every day.

• After a siesta, you will go for an afternoon game drive along the Chobe River, where you will see big herds of buffalo, elephants, pods of hippos and a pride of lions. Chobe is a unique park because, during the dry season, big herds of animals congregate along the river. You will see elephants swimming from one bank to the other and buffalo crossing to Sedudu Island.

• Return from a beautiful game drive, freshen up and have dinner. Bedtime is determined by the last guest.

• Wake up the next day and have a quick breakfast before departing for a longer morning game drive. You will also have an opportunity to observe the animals from close up. Chobe also boasts two antelopes rarely encountered in Botswana - the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. With their shaggy orange-brown coats and V-shaped horns, the puku can be spotted grazing the floodplains. Always look out for predators, as a repetitive whistle warns fellow herd members.

• In contrast, the Chobe bushbuck is nocturnal and rarely forms groups of more than one pair. Rarely seen, this shy antelope, with its short spiral horns, relies on a sharp bark as an alarm call when threatened. The puku and the bushbuck have several predators, from lions, hyenas and leopards to African wild dogs.

• Return to the campsite after a beautiful drive, have lunch and then go for a siesta.

• At 3:00 p.m., depart for a beautiful sunset boat cruise along the Chobe River at your own expense. You will come very close to crocodiles and pods of hippos from the boat. You may also see lions from the boat, as well as big herds of buffalo and elephants.

• Return to the camping area after sunset; dinner will be served at 8:00 p.m.

• Have breakfast and depart for Savuti, part of Chobe National Park. It is called Savuti because a certain chief called Sauté used to live there with his tribe. Tawny eagles can be seen soaring in the sky as you go. The drive is delightful, as you will see many birds and animals on the way. The scenery is fantastic and very African-looking, with many umbrella thorns, acacia tortilis with giraffe feeding, and much more, including the most photographed bird, the lilac-breasted roller, a national bird of Botswana. You will not resist taking a picture of it; it is the most beautiful bird in Africa.

• Arrive for lunch; the exclusive camp will be set up, and you will camp for one night.

• Depart for a game drive at 3:30 p.m. to the beautiful Savuti Marsh, where you will see vast herds of zebras and wildebeest and also have an opportunity to see pairs of kori bustards, the heaviest flying birds.

• Get back to camp after sunset for a lovely dinner around the campfire. Again, the last guest determines bedtime.

• Enjoy early morning tea, coffee and rusks, then depart for a game drive along the Savuti Channel. The area looks unique, as there are many tall trees along the river where animals like to gather in the shade.

• Drive to the Savuti Marsh, where you can track the cheetah because of the vast open grassland, their most preferred habitat.

• Get back for lunch after a long drive, shower, launder your clothes and have a siesta. Depending on the individual, some people sometimes update their diaries.

• At 3:30 p.m., enjoy tea and coffee before departing for a game drive, your last game drive in Savuti.

• Be back from the game drive after sunset, which will be enjoyed under the baobab tree (Ansonia digitata), an indigenous tree found in Africa. It is nicknamed the upside-down tree because the branches look like roots when it is dry or without leaves.

• Return to the camp after a lovely game drive and have dinner at 8:00 p.m.

• Have breakfast and depart for Moremi Game Reserve, widely considered one of the finest wildlife reserves in Africa. It has a diversity of habitats, combining acacia forests and mopane woodlands with floodplains and lagoons. Here you will be camping at an exclusive campsite. The drives will take you to the park's most beautiful areas, such as Third Bridge, Bodumatau and Dead Tree Island. The game is plentiful in these areas. Sightings include elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, hyena, jackal and many different antelopes, including red lechwe and the shy sitatunga, a web-footed antelope perfectly adapted to life in the swamps. Wild dogs, whose numbers are rapidly dwindling elsewhere, are regularly sighted in the Moremi Game Reserve. You will camp for two nights.

• At 3:30 p.m., enjoy tea and coffee and depart for a game drive. You will be back from the game drive after sunset.

• Return to the camp after a lovely game drive and have dinner at 8:00 p.m.

• An early morning wake-up call for a shower and then tea or coffee with breakfast cereals and nibbles prepares you for the early morning game drive, leaving camp just after sunrise. The morning drive heads out for game viewing and proceeds through the beautiful scenery of this part of Moremi, with a good chance of seeing buffalo, antelopes and hippos.

• Come back to the camp for lunch and then have a siesta.

• After your siesta, you will have high tea and resume your afternoon game drive.

• Come back to the camp before sunset, have a shower and dinner will be served around the campfire.

• Prepare your small luggage for the mokoro overnight trip in the Delta.

• After breakfast, depart for the Okavango Delta; you will meet your local mokoro (dug-out canoe) poler, who will serve as your guide. Local mokoro community guides conduct this activity, but the chef and camp assistant come along as well.

• When you arrive, the camp assistant will set up camp under a canopy of trees, and you will have lunch. Then, it is time for a siesta. Tea and coffee will be served before you take a guided walk on the island.

• Travel by mokoro is undeniably the best way to experience the Okavango Delta. Explore the waterways and take nature walks where you can track game and get a close-up feel of this unique environment. Here, birdlife is spectacular. On foot, you can have a much more intense experience of the bush, particularly the flora and fauna that might otherwise go unnoticed. Guides are experienced in tracking animals and can point out exciting sightings of various types of wildlife.

• An early morning game walk will be available for interested persons, returning to the camp when ready to enjoy breakfast.

• After breakfast, the mekoros can be taken again to enjoy the channels, the intricate veins of waterways that interconnect the lagoons, or you may take a guided bush walk before having lunch or snacks.

• In the afternoon, the guides will take you in the mekoros to a safe location where swimming is possible in the waters of the Okavango Delta, followed by a chance to learn how to pole a mokoro using the gnashi. Time can be taken to relax and have a drink.

• After the bush walk, you can relax and unwind in the camp, refresh and have dinner under the Milky Way starlit skies, after which the guides and polers will narrate cultural stories and entertain you with traditional dances that display animal tracking techniques and gathering methods for traditional medicinal purposes. Guests interested in astronomy will be treated to one of Earth's most expansive displays of stars before retiring to cosy tents for the night and drifting off to the sounds of the wild. Bedtime is determined by the last guest.

• After breakfast, transfer to Maun Airport to catch your international flight to Johannesburg.
