Know before you go

  • In this one-day tour of Agra from Delhi, you will visit the historic city of Agra, which is home to 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the tour covers 2 of them - the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The Taj Mahal, a wonder of the world, is a beautiful mausoleum built by a husband in loving memory of his beloved wife, poetically described as "A teardrop on the cheek of time."

  • The Taj Mahal is the most iconic building and landmark of India in terms of tourism. It is one of the most achingly beautiful architectural achievements in the world and is considered a symbol of enduring love. One of the seven wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site, it was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died while giving birth to their fourteenth child. Built in pure white marble, the Taj Mahal is located along the banks of the River Yamuna and spreads across almost 60 acres of land. It is believed that this particular spot was chosen by the emperor because it was Mumtaz Mahal's favourite place due to its peaceful and soothing atmosphere. Shrouded in white marble, the sheer elegance, purity and sentiment that are an integral part of the monument have touched the hearts of people from all corners of the world. It stands as a tribute to undying love, and all who visit it stand awed by the first impression created by this architectural marvel in white marble.

  • Agra Fort was constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great in 1565 A.D. and includes many royal buildings such as Jahangir Palace, Khas Mahal, Musamman Burj, where Shah Jahan is believed to have been imprisoned and died, Sheesh Mahal and Diwan-e-Aam. Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is well known for its history, and its architecture is a blend of Muslim and Hindu architecture.

  • The Taj Mahal is closed on Friday, so this same-day tour does not operate on Fridays. There is no dress code to visit the Taj Mahal, but out of respect for the place, it is better to cover your legs by wearing full-length pants or jeans. For a better photography experience, try to wear bright colours.
