Los Lagos Trail Hike in Huerquehue National Park
Meet your Chilean guide at 8 am at your hotel in Pucón for pick-up and transfer.
Drive through the lovely countryside towards Caburgua.
Make a short stop to enjoy a view of Caburgua Lake.
After 45 minutes, reach Lake Tinquilco and the park entrance with the ranger station. A dirt road continues for about 15 minutes, and finally, you arrive at the trailhead.
On the uphill walk, you will pass several lookouts with great views of Lake Tinquilco and Villarrica volcano. The hike is mostly inside the lush "Valdivian Rain Forest," where you will see different species of native trees such as arrayán, tepa, coigüe, and mañío, among many others.
After about 2 hours of hiking, you will reach the first of the mountain lakes, Lago Chico, with many araucaria trees on its shore. A bit farther on, you will come to Lago Toro and, after another 10 minutes uphill, Lago Verde. There are several beautiful spots for a relaxing lunch break beside the lakes.
For most excursions, these 3 lakes are visited. With tough hikers, it is possible to extend the hike to the smaller ponds Los Patos and Huerquehue, which takes about 2 extra hours.
After lunch, start your way back to the car. If there is still enough time and energy left, you can make a short side trip to visit the waterfalls Trufulco and/or Nido de Águila.
Ride back to Pucón through the Liucura valley, with more great views of Villarrica volcano along the way.
