Yangon - Bago
Pick up at your hotel in Yangon by your Myanmar tour guide to visit the former capital of Bago. On the way, you stop by the Taukkyan War Cemetery, a monument for allied soldiers from the British Commonwealth who died in battle in Burma during the Second World War.
Head on to see the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, often referred to as the "Golden God Temple". This pagoda stands at 374 ft and is one of the tallest pagodas in Myanmar.
Continue to the Shwethalyaung Pagoda to see a reclining Buddha idol, which length 55 meters. Myanmar people say that the Buddha image represents Buddha in a 'relaxing' mode.
Visit the Kanbawzathadi Palace, built for King Bayinnaung in 1556. The palace was rebuilt in 1990, following the original design based on knowledge gained from excavations and original drawings of the burnt palace in 1599. Several artefacts are on display, like a replica of the King's golden coach.
Stop by Kyaikpun Pagoda while heading back to Yangon. It is a small Buddhist monastery known for its four towering images of the Buddha, often visible from a far distance. The idols, facing each other's back, represent the four Buddhas that have reached Nirvana.
