Castles of Northern Croatia and Varaždin
- Be picked up from your accommodation in Zagreb and enjoy a pleasant drive north. Visit Veliki Tabor Castle, famous for its impressive architecture, rich museum collection, and beautiful views stretching all the way to Slovenia. The layout of the castle consists of an older pentagonal building with late Gothic elements, enclosed by an irregularly shaped Renaissance defensive wall and residential facilities.
- Continue to Trakošćan, the most famous and best-preserved Croatian castle. It was first built in the late 13th or early 14th century as a small defensive fortress. Today, the Trakošćan complex is a romantic synergy of architecture and nature, shaped in the 19th century when it was reconstructed in Neo-Gothic style and the surrounding landscape, including a lake, was created following the model of an English park. See a valuable collection of paintings, furniture, and weapons, and enjoy a walk around the picturesque lake surrounding the castle.
- Enjoy sightseeing in Varaždin, often referred to as "Little Vienna," a city in Northern Croatia famous for its intact Baroque architecture. You will have free time to walk the cobbled streets of the city and see its historical squares, churches, and palaces, as well as the charming town hall and the city's most important cultural monument - the Gothic-Renaissance Old Town, also known as Varaždin Castle.
- Return to Zagreb. You can have a coffee on the main square, or your guide can recommend one of the local restaurants for lunch.
