Orang Utan Island and Perak Tong Cave Temple Tour

  • 7 AM: Kick off your tour of Orang Utan Island from Kuala Lumpur with hotel pick-up by your friendly and professional driver.

  • Go on a 4-hour drive southbound along the North-South Expressway, which brings you to the sleepy community of Bukit Merah town, passing through small palm oil plantations and pineapple fields.

  • On arrival, board the ferry boat heading to Orang Utan Island. Step ashore and marvel at the "People of the Jungle," or orangutans, an endangered species. Scientifically identified as very smart animals, orangutans have one of the longest birth intervals, on average, once every eight years.

  • Enjoy an hour and a half at this dedicated rehabilitation sanctuary. Capture lots of photos for your remembrance.

  • Pass by Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, Jalan Bukit Merah, Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, Semanggol 34400 Malaysia, Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, Semanggol, Malaysia.

  • Stop at Perak Cave Temple, 6 km north of Ipoh, on the road to Ipoh 31400 Malaysia.

  • Eat lunch (included) at a local restaurant before exploring Perak Tong Cave Temple and returning to Kuala Lumpur.

  • Explore Perak Tong Cave Temple, one of the best cave temples in Malaysia. After climbing the steps and passing through the narrow entrance, the limestone cave opens up into a giant space with a high dome and branches off into hidden recesses and grottoes.

  • See a golden sitting Buddha statue, 40 feet tall, dominating the temple. The walls of the cavern are decorated with colourful murals depicting characters and events from Chinese mythology and Buddhist scriptures. Numerous statues and carvings are scattered around the temple, including a female figure with 18 arms who could be Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. The strong aroma of incense mixed with the earthy cave smell lends the cave a special atmosphere.

  • End your tour with a hotel drop-off back in Kuala Lumpur.
