Day 01

Colonial Yangon and Shwedagon Pagoda

Go for a gentle walk around old Yangon city hub, with its colonial buildings and the small Indian Quarter.
Visit Sule Pagoda, City Hall, Mahar Bandoola Park, the High Court, and more.
Stop at a tea house to taste local tea with traditional snacks.
Continue walking along Bank Street.

Rangoon (a corruption of Yangon) was built by the king in the 18th century, and he named it "Yangon," meaning "End of Strike." Now it is the biggest and busiest city in Myanmar, with 7 million people.
Under the supervision of Englishmen Dr William Montgomery and Captain Fraser, Rangoon became the most beautiful and cleanest city in South East Asia and was made the capital. It is easy to get a sense of how prosperous colonial Rangoon was from the monumental architecture that still graces the city's downtown.
