Day 01
Fort-de-France, Balata, Route de la Trace and Saint-Pierre
- Meet your tour guide and discover Martinique's heritage in the charming capital of Fort-de-France with a walking tour to Saint-Louis Cathedral.
- Continue through the spice market and finally to the Schoelcher Library.
- Admire the panoramic views from the mini-replica of the iconic Sacré-Coeur Basilica, which overlooks Fort-de-France.
- Arrive at the Church of Balata, a mini-replica of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Paris. Capture images of the White Cathedral and step inside to see its beautiful simplicity and spectacular dome. You can also enjoy more magnificent scenes with the stunning panoramic views over Fort-de-France.
- Travel inland by coach and climb the tropical rainforest mountain roads, twisting and turning along La Trace Road. Bamboo, ferns, palm trees, and forest plants appear along the route. As you descend the steep mountain and return toward the town of Saint-Pierre, you will see the Alma River and the Saut Gendarme Waterfall.
- Reach the volcano's base and enjoy the bay view from a venerable rum distillery producing Agricole rum from sugar cane juice.
- Continue to the island's far end for time on a black sand beach facing the Caribbean Sea, with local juice and free time.
- Visit the ruins left by the 1902 volcanic eruption that drastically changed the island, including the theatre and prison ruins.
