Embark on a journey through Bhutan's majestic museums, dzongs, and mountain valleys, from Paro and Thimphu to Punakha, Gangtey, and Haa. Visit landmarks including Paro Rinpung Dzong, Postal Museum, Chimi Lhakhang, Tashichho Dzong, and Kuensel Phodrang, while crossing the splendid Himalayan landscapes of Dochula Pass on the way to Phobjikha Valley, home of the black-necked cranes. The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Paro and Transfer to Thimphu

  • Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, meet your tour guide and drive to Thimphu, the capital city.

  • On the way, visit Tamchog Lhakhang, which is set on a ridge with a beautiful view.

  • After reaching Thimphu, check in to your hotel.

  • Have lunch and then head to the National Memorial Chorten.

  • Continue to the Postal Museum and Post Office, where you can get a personalized stamp with your picture.

  • Later, explore Tashichho Dzong, known as the "fortress of the glorious religion".

Day 02

Thimphu Sightseeing and Cultural Exploration

  • After breakfast, visit Kuensel Phodrang, where the Big Buddha statue stands, and walk through the Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park. From here, enjoy one of the best views of Thimphu Valley with the mountains behind.

  • Then head to the Motithang Takin Preserve, also known as the Mini Zoo, where you will see Bhutan's national animal. Continue to the Folk Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to connecting people to Bhutan's rural past through its exhibitions.

  • After lunch, explore the Handmade Paper Factory, where you will see how traditional Bhutanese handmade paper is produced, and visit the Crafts Bazaar, where you will find authentic Bhutanese handicrafts.

  • Later, walk along Norzin Lam, the main downtown area of Thimphu.

Day 03

Drive from Thimphu to Gangtey via Dochu-La Pass

  • Head to Gangtey.

  • Midway, stop at Dochu-La Pass (3,100 meters), which offers incredible views of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks on a clear day. The beauty of this place is further enhanced by the Druk Wangyel Chorten - 108 stupas.

  • Drive onward to Phobjikha Valley via Punakha and Wangdue.

  • On arrival in Gangtey, visit the Crane Information Center, where you can learn about the valley, the winter home of black-necked cranes that migrate from the arid plains of the Tibetan Plateau to spend the winter in this milder, lower-altitude climate.

Day 04

Gangtey Nature Trail and Transfer to Punakha

  • After breakfast, hike along the Gangtey Nature Trail and enjoy the breathtaking views of Phobjikha Valley.

  • Visit Gangtey Gompa, which dates back to the 17th century.

  • Later, drive back to Punakha.

  • Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility blessed by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, who is known as the Divine Madman for his eccentric behaviour. He is also considered a symbol of fertility, so many childless couples visit this temple to seek blessings.

Day 05

Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten and Punakha Dzong

  • After breakfast, take a 45-minute hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten for picturesque views of the rice terraces along the river.

  • Then visit Punakha Dzong, a majestic fortress located between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). Punakha was once the ancient capital of Bhutan.

  • After lunch, drive back to Paro.

Day 06

Tiger's Nest Hike and Paro Cultural Experiences

  • After breakfast, hike to the famous Taktsang Monastery, a wooded structure that stands dramatically on a cliff in the upper Paro Valley. It is said that the great Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and established this monastery when he brought the teachings of Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th century.

  • After lunch, visit the Paro National Museum.

  • Next, continue to Paro Rinpung Dzong.

  • Later in the evening, visit a farmhouse to experience Bhutanese traditions, taste Bhutanese cuisine, and enjoy a traditional hot stone bath as well.

Day 07

Excursion to Haa via Chelela Pass

  • Drive to Haa via Chelela Pass (3,988 m). On the way, visit Kila Nunnery.

  • In Haa, visit Lhakhang Karpo and stroll around Haa town.

  • Later, drive back to Paro.

Day 08

Departure from Paro

  • In the morning, drive to the airport to board your return flight.
