Day 01

Saqqara Pyramids, Tombs, Museum of Imhotep and Serapeum

  • In the morning, your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo in a deluxe air-conditioned car or van and take you to the world of the pharaohs, where you will hear their stories.

  • Saqqara features numerous pyramids, including the famous Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the oldest pyramid in Egypt, along with its beautiful temple, colonnaded way, and the House of the North and the South. See the Pyramid of King Unas, famous for its amazing texts inside, as well as the small Pyramid of King Titi. You will also visit magnificent painted tombs of high officials in ancient Egypt, such as the tomb of Vizier Kagemni with its unique decorations and scenes, and the tomb of the ancient doctor Ankhmahor. You will also see the beautiful monument of Meriruka, the largest Old Kingdom tomb at Saqqara.

  • Visit the tombs of the nobles with their coloured scenes, including those of the two brothers Niankhnom and Khnomhotep, as well as Irukaptah, with its famous scenes of daily life activities in ancient Egypt.

  • Head to the Museum of Imhotep, the ancient Egyptian architect who built the Step Pyramid. The museum contains six large halls full of masterpieces from the Saqqara area.

  • Finally, it is time for a very unique visit to the Serapeum. Enjoy a new experience as you walk through a long underground tunnel. It was the burial place of the sacred Apis bulls and contains many huge ancient sarcophagi.

Know before you go

  • The desert plateau above the modern village of Sakkara formed one of the main cemeteries of the ancient Egyptian capital city of Memphis for thousands of years. As such, it attracted a large number of royal and high-prestige burials, the remains of which can be seen in pyramids and decorated tombs.

  • Saqqara's necropolis was also used in the New Kingdom, so you can visit more painted and decorated tombs, including those of Maya, who was the Overseer of the Treasury during the reign of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, and Horemheb.
