Day 01
Hurghada City Sights, Markets, and Local Flavours
- Pick up by your guide from your hotel or cruise boat in Safaga or Hurghada at the arranged time, which you will receive by email or SMS to your mobile phone.
- Start your tour with your friendly guide, who will share instructions and educational information about the whole itinerary while passing Hurghada's main points. You will begin by passing beside the oldest hotel in Hurghada, the old Sheraton Hotel, a big round building on a headland to the south of town. It is no longer a Sheraton and has been unused for the past few years.
- Next, head to the old Felfela restaurant, considered one of the area's greatest panoramic viewpoints. With views across the bay to Gifton Island, this is a perfect photo stop for beautiful scenes of the boats, islands, and sea.
- After that, join your guide at the new marina. Since June 2008, Hurghada Marina has given the city a fresh new look. With many of Egypt's finest restaurants, unique cafes, and stylish bars, Hurghada Marina Boulevard offers food and beverages for all tastes.
- Leave the marina area and walk with your guide to the right-hand side from the exit door, where after a few metres you will pass by a fish market.
- Later, continue to Marina New Mosque, where your guide will explain Islam, Muslim traditions, and religion. You will also have the opportunity to take photos inside and outside the mosque, but not during prayer time.
- Before stepping back on your bus and continuing to the next stop, you will have the chance to take more nice photos of the boats under construction or being repaired in the old harbour next to the new mosque.
- The next stop will be the Church of St Mary in Dahar.
- Near the church in Dahar are the vegetable and fruit markets. Spend about 15 minutes of free time walking through the souk alleys. Do not be afraid - people are amicable, and the prices here are very reasonable. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the town.
- After testing your negotiation skills, you will move to the next stop and rest at a coffee shop with typical Egyptian drinks and flavoured shisha.
- Now it is time to try Egyptian falafel and beans with Aish Baladi and a bottle of water before your last stop, which is not obligatory and depends on your choice: the oil factory for some shopping, or return to the hotel.
