Ararat Valley, Khor Virap, Noravank and Tatev
Drive through the pretty Ararat Valley to the 4th-century monastery of Khor Virap, where you will enjoy views of Mt. Ararat. There are many places from which to admire the mountain, and each one is unique. Ararat is the mountain that will let you feel where your ancestors come from. "Khor Virap" means "deep dungeon." It was the site of a royal prison in the 4th century, where Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, was detained.
Continue to Noravank Monastery, known for its intricate carvings. Here, you will find the only depiction of God. You can also notice the face of Jesus Christ that appeared on the dome of the narthex.
Reach Tatev Monastery, an educational and spiritual center, by cable car.
