Day 01

Mindelo Markets, Monte Verde and Baía das Gatas

Meet your tour guide at a pre-decided location in Mindelo and begin the tour.
Visit old pirate forts.
Learn about the history and culture of our island.
Walk through the lively markets and streets of Mindelo, passing Lisbon Street, an icon of our town.
Visit the home of our famous Barefoot Diva, Cesária Évora, while listening to her Morna playing in the background.
Drive to the highest point of our island, Monte Verde, at 774 m or 2,539 ft, and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views. Have a cup of locally grown tea or try the tea liquor.
Relax on the beach of Baía das Gatas, where you may take a swim in the clear blue lagoon.
Head back to the hotel or accommodation.

What to bring

Bring a bottle of water. A snack is optional, as lunch is excluded.

Know before you go

Most of our travel will be by vehicle, though we will do some walking in the city. Wear your bathing suit for a swim at Baia das Gatas Beach if desired. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and use sun protection. Please be advised that we will travel up to the summit of Monte Verde at a high altitude.
On Sundays, the markets and cultural center are closed. On these days, we will pass by to learn more about the lifestyle on the island.
