Know before you go

Things you need to know before visiting the park:

You can't bring food like chips or peanuts inside. Park rangers will check your backpack at the entrance and remove them.
There are bathrooms, showers, and changing stations.
They only allow a certain number of people into the park each day, so if you leave and want to return later, you can re-enter only if there is enough space.
Do not feed the animals.
Do not walk off the trails.
If you drive, park at the lot by the roundabout; it's free. The parking lot by the entrance charges 3,000 Colones (CRC).
If you hire a guide, make sure they are certified by the ICT (Instituto Costarricense de Turismo). Some guides pretend to be certified and try to charge a lot of money. You can also book through a tour company, as they have certified guides.
For guides outside the entrance, always bargain. They offered $40 for a 3-hour guide for 1 person.
Transport is available if you need it.
Cancellations must be made with 48 hours' notice by phone.
No-shows will be charged the full price.
