Visit the masterpieces of medieval Armenian architecture, Sanahin and Haghpat Monasteries. These monasteries are vast complexes in northern Armenia, founded in the 12th-13th centuries. Both are outstanding masterpieces of Armenian architecture, whose artistic merits transcended the limits of national culture. They are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Stroll through Akhtala Monastery, built on an elevated rocky outcrop and surrounded by deep canyons on three sides. Archaeological excavations have shown that humans have occupied the area since the early Bronze Age. It was built from blue basalt and was considered unapproachable by enemies.
See the church walls of Surb Astvacacin, famous for its highly artistic frescoes, which cover the inside walls, partitions, and the building's bearings.
