Day 01

Hiking, River Tubing, and Waterfalls at Cockscomb Basin

• Pick up from Placencia, Hopkins, Dangriga, or the airport.

• Drive to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, about a half-hour drive from Placencia and a 15-minute drive from Hopkins along the Southern Highway.

• Upon arrival, receive a brief orientation.

• Hike along a well-marked trail, where you will have the chance to see different animals and plants, as well as lots of exotic birds.

• Go inner tubing down the South Stann Creek River.

• Take a short hike to an amazing waterfall for a swim, enjoy a natural water slide, and have a packed lunch.

• Hike back to the vehicles.

• Return to your hotel.

• The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the country's most beautiful, unspoiled areas and a nature reserve. With no automobile traffic or residences, it is the perfect place to see Belize's nature at its finest. Located 30 minutes from Placencia and 15 minutes from Hopkins Village, it is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including approximately 200 jaguars. The reserve is also home to the world's only dedicated scientific and conservation program to help preserve these rare animals in their natural habitats.
