The itinerary

1
Day 01

Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve

  • Drive in the morning to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the northern part of the Serengeti and one of Kenya's most favoured game-viewing areas. The reserve covers 700 square miles of magnificent wilderness. It is the Africa of the imagination, with endless reaches of acacia-dotted grasslands studded with hazy hills.

  • Enjoy an afternoon game drive and see lions in large prides, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and numerous plains animals.

Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

2
Day 02

Full-Day Masai Mara Wildlife Safari

  • Enjoy a full-day game drive in Masai Mara. The Mara is the land of African legends. Lions are abundant throughout the park, as are elephants, giraffes, various gazelle species, and zebras. Cheetahs and leopards are also regularly seen, while the less common animals include rhinos. The annual wildebeest migration, one of nature's few remaining wildlife spectacles, occurs in the Mara from July to September. The big animals and their predators are present in abundance during this time.

  • The Maasai Mara is also home to many members of the colourful Maasai tribe, who may be seen around the park's borders - Morans (warriors) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing matters of the day. A Maasai boma (homestead) visit reveals all of this along with unique culture and customs.

All meals and overnight at the campsite.

Day 03

Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru via the Rift Valley

  • Enjoy the last game drive after breakfast in the picturesque Masai Mara in the morning through the Rift Valley.

  • Drive to Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population and regarded as one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are also many animals to be encountered, including large game such as zebras, elephants, and gazelles. This is one of the best chances to see rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. It is also one of the few places where Rothschild's giraffes can be seen.

Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 04

Lake Nakuru Game Viewing and Return to Nairobi

  • After breakfast, spend the morning game viewing, watching, and photographing birds at Nakuru National Park.

  • Leave for Nairobi with lunch en route and a stop for panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley.

  • Arrive in Nairobi late in the afternoon after driving through lush Kikuyu farmland. You will be dropped at your hotel. This is also one of the few places where Rothschild's giraffes can be seen.
