7-Day Carpathian Splitboarding Tour from Brașov to Bâlea Lake

On day 1, we get to know each other. Our team will wait for you at the airport and bring you to Brașov.

Here, depending on what you want to do, you can choose to visit the city center or chill out in your room. Nevertheless, we need to decide the itineraries for the next few days, so after lunch, it is time for a briefing.

After checking the weather forecast, we start our trip towards Prahova Valley to reach the Piatra Mare plateau, situated at 1,800 m. We will put on our splitboards and begin the walk to Piatra Mare Chalet, our first stop.

We will have lunch, and then after more than 45 minutes of ascent, we will reach the starting point for our first ride. Depending on the general condition of the group, we can make two or more descents.

Ciucaș is the mountain where you will always find good snow and safe places with no avalanche risk. The climbs are smooth, and on a good day, you can make up to 4 or 5 descents. The highest peak stands at 1,954 m, and from the main ridge, you can choose between the south-facing or north-facing slopes.

In the Făgăraș Mountains, we change the mountain but keep the snow. During 70% of the cold season, the snow at Bâlea stays fresh, so we take no chances here.

We will go from Bâlea Waterfall to Bâlea Lake by cable car. From here, the options are endless.

We can do multiple ascents up to 2,400 m altitude and then descend to Bâlea Valley or Doamnei Valley.

We will have lunch at Paltin Cabin, followed by the last downhill ride to Bâlea Waterfall.

If the snow is in good condition, Bâlea is also a great option for the following day. As we said, the riding options are countless.

So, on the second day, already warmed up after the first, we suggest a ride in which endurance and adrenaline go hand in hand. Going up, either on the splitboard or on snowshoes, the ascent to the ridge will make you gladly look forward to the downhill.

You will enjoy a stunning panorama of the Făgăraș Mountains, including views of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains. The ridge will make you feel like you are on top of the world, and we assure you that the descent is long and exciting.

We will take the south face, pray for good conditions, and hope that the sun will accompany us. The view is incredible, as the snow-covered Făgăraș Mountains are spectacular!

Like the last few days, depending on how you feel, we can go for one or more rides. Considering that the area is wilder, we should pack more supplies with us: tea, biscuits, and chocolate are recommended.

Depending on your flight departure and snow conditions, we will ride down the Doamnei Valley or Bâlea Valley.
