The itinerary

Day 01

Coffee and Cacao Farm Experience in the Peruvian Jungle

  • 03:30 - Pick up from the hotel and start the trip to a local family home.

  • 08:30 - Arrive at the farm and take a brief break after your long, early journey.

  • 09:00 - The family will guide you around the farm, explain the work performed there, and show you the range of produce being harvested to support their family. You will also be able to taste the available fruit in season. This locally owned farm is a small one that belongs to a cooperative organization in accordance with fair trade practices, which grants it organic certification.

  • During this initial tour of the larger farm and coffee plantation, you will come to truly appreciate all of the hard work and the various stages that go into preparing an excellent cup of coffee or chocolate.

  • 11:30 - Enjoy an interactive demonstration on roasting coffee and cacao, where you will even have the opportunity to prepare your own cup of fresh coffee or chocolate.

  • 12:30 - Lunch on the farm with locally prepared family-style dishes. If you would like to try something special, such as guinea pig, PWT can coordinate with the family ahead of time, and you can pay them directly upon arrival.

  • 13:40 - After another break, continue your journey to Santa Maria, then to Santa Teresa, and finally to the hydroelectric station to take the train to Aguas Calientes.

  • 16:00 - Arrive at the hydroelectric station.

  • 16:30 - Travel by train toward Aguas Calientes.

  • 17:30 - Arrive in Aguas Calientes and check in to your basic hostel accommodation. Upon arrival, your guide will give you information about your Machu Picchu tour for the next day. The evening is yours to spend as you please.

Day 02

Guided Tour of Machu Picchu

  • In the morning, take a tour of Machu Picchu with your guide for about two hours, and then you will have the opportunity to explore the citadel on your own. Take the best photos and soak in the natural scenery here.

  • In the afternoon, have lunch on your own (not included).

  • Later, travel by train to Ollantaytambo and then by bus to Cusco.
