The itinerary

1
Day 01

Drive from Islamabad to Chilas via Besham

  • Depart early and drive to Besham via Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.

  • After a short break at Besham, resume your drive on the Karakoram Highway along the River Indus. Make photo stops at the Shatial rocks, known for their ancient graffiti.

  • Arrive in Chilas and transfer to your hotel.

Day 02

Travel from Chilas to Skardu via Kachura Lake

  • From Chilas, travel towards Skardu and stop at Nanga Parbat View Point and the confluence of the world's three highest mountain ranges - Karakorum, Himalaya, and Hindukush - including the convergence of the Gilgit River into the Indus. Shortly after this point, turn right to follow the Indus River towards Skardu. This is the most breathtaking part of the journey, where you will see villages on both sides of the mighty Indus, with rope bridges connecting the two sides.

  • Arrive at the Kachura Lakes for a brief stop before continuing to Skardu, where you will transfer to your hotel on arrival.

Day 03

Excursion to Deo Sai Plains from Skardu

  • After breakfast, head towards Deo Sai and stop briefly at Satpara Lake.

  • Climb to more than 4,000 meters to reach the plateau.

  • Stop at the Bara Pani Bridge for a tea break and try to reach Shausar Lake, depending on weather conditions, before returning to Skardu.

Day 04

Explore Shigar Valley and return to Skardu

  • After breakfast, leave for Shigar Valley, a striking contrast of greenery and desert known as the cold desert of Shigar. There are a number of exciting sites to visit in Shigar, including the Shigar River, Shigar Fort, Ambrique Mosque, and Hashupi Bagh (apple garden).

  • In the evening, drive back to Skardu.

Day 05

Return journey from Skardu to Besham via Chilas

  • After breakfast, check out and start your return journey following the Indus River.

  • Reach the KKH and drive to Chilas for rest and a lunch break.

  • After lunch, continue your journey towards Besham and transfer to your hotel on arrival.

Day 06

Drive from Besham back to Islamabad

  • From Besham, resume your journey towards Islamabad, passing through Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Havelian.

  • Reach Islamabad city at the designated drop-off place, marking the end of the tour.

Know before you go

  • Skardu is the capital of the Skardu District, the land of the highest mountains of Karakoram, with Shigar and Khaplu as its significant towns. Kachura and Satpara Lakes are the scenic attractions around Skardu, while a jeep excursion to Deo Sai plateau (in summers) is one of the most wonderful experiences. In Skardu town, a hike to Khorpocho Fort and Organic Village are also highlights of the tour.

  • This is a year-round program. However, if the Babusar Pass route is open in summer, we will follow this picturesque option through the Kaghan Valley.
