The itinerary

1
Day 01

Drive from Islamabad to Chilas via Besham

  • Depart early and drive to Besham via Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.

  • After a short break at Besham, resume the drive on the Karakoram Highway along the River Indus. Make photo stops at the Shatial Rocks to see their ancient graffiti.

  • Reach Chilas and transfer to the hotel.

Day 02

Travel from Chilas to Karimabad via Gilgit

  • From Chilas, travel towards Hunza and stop on the way for sightseeing at the Nanga Parbat View Point and the confluence of three mountain ranges - Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindukush - including the point where the Gilgit River meets the Indus.

  • From here, reach Gilgit and continue onward, bypassing Gilgit and following the Hunza River.

  • Stop for lunch at Rakaposhi Viewpoint, then continue to Karimabad, the capital of Hunza Valley.

  • Check in to the hotel in Karimabad and stay there for the night.

Day 03

Excursion to Khunjerab Pass from Karimabad

  • Today, weather permitting, make an excursion to the Sino-Pak border at Khunjerab, passing through the villages of Gulmit, Passu, and Sost along the way. Khunjerab is the highest point on the Karakoram Highway at 4,734 meters and is considered the world's highest trade route.

  • In the evening, return to Karimabad.

Day 04

Visit Baltit and Altit forts, then drive to Gilgit

  • Ultar, Hunza Dome, Bublimating, Spantik, and Diran are among the famous peaks surrounding Karimabad, while Rakaposhi, at 7,788 meters, dominates the entire panorama.

  • In Karimabad, visit the Baltit Fort Museum and Altit Fort.

  • In the afternoon, drive to Gilgit and make a brief visit to the bazaar.

  • Later, transfer to the hotel.

Day 05

Visit Kargah Valley and return to Besham

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel and visit Kargah Valley to see the ancient 7th-century Buddha carving on the mountainside.

  • After that, drive back to Gilgit, and from there begin the return journey towards Besham.

  • Reach Besham in the evening and transfer to the hotel on arrival.

Day 06

Return to Islamabad from Besham

  • From Besham, resume the journey towards Islamabad, passing through Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Havelian, and reach Islamabad at the designated drop-off place.
