The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Chiapas, Sumidero Canyon and Chiapa de Corzo

  • Get picked up from Tuxtla Gutiérrez International Airport and head to Sumidero Canyon.

  • Enjoy a boat trip on the Grijalva River.

  • Go on a city tour of Chiapa de Corzo.

  • Then arrive in San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Day 02

Chiflón Waterfalls and Montebello Lakes

  • Walk around the Chiflón waterfalls and climb the mountain.

  • Lunch will be on the road to the Montebello Lakes.

  • Visit five beautiful lakes in the middle of a coniferous forest.

  • Return to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Day 03

San Juan Chamula, San Lorenzo Zinacantán and San Cristóbal

  • Visit the magical community of San Juan Chamula, with the most spiritual expression of the Mayan connection with God, and learn about the political, social, and religious organization of the Maya people in the old days.

  • Then go to San Lorenzo, a place of beautiful warrior women who fight for their rights with smiles and colourful handmade textiles.

  • Go on a city tour of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Day 04

Toniná, Agua Azul and Arrival in Palenque

  • Meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby at 6:00 a.m.

  • From the conifer woods, descend into the Lacandon jungle. The first stop will be the archaeological site of Toniná, the highest Mayan monument in Mexico.

  • The second stop is the Agua Azul waterfalls, with turquoise waters in the middle of the jungle, inside Maya-Tzeltal territory.

  • Arrive in Palenque.

Day 05

Palenque Archaeological Site and Selva Lacandona

  • Visit the archaeological site of Palenque to meet King Kinich Janab Pakal, one of the most famous and important Mayan kings.

  • Then go directly into the jungle with the smallest ethnic group, the Mayan Lacandonia.

Stay overnight in an eco-hotel to enjoy the forest, the wildlife, and the exotic sounds.

Day 06

Yaxchilán, Bonampak and Return to Palenque

  • Today starts at 6:30 a.m. to see the Usumacinta River, one of the most important rivers in Mexico, the preamble to a trip into the past - circa 700 BC - with hosts such as howler monkeys, toucans, parrots, and more.

  • See Bonampak, which means "painted walls." These are the best-preserved paintings in Mesoamerica and tell of King Chan Muan II, his power, and their concept of war and religious rituals.

  • Return to Palenque and end of services, or transfer to the airport.
