Day 01
Sunset Safari and Bush Dinner in Hwange
- Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel at around 4:00 pm. From there, you will head to a private reserve located approximately 7 miles (12 km) from the centre of town, where you will enjoy a late-afternoon game drive until sunset.
- Travel in an open, well-equipped 4x4 vehicle through the changing landscapes of scenic basalt plains, Kalahari sands, and teak forests in the Nakavango Private Game Reserve, Hwange. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating facts about the African bush, as well as personal experiences of living here.
- At sunset, stop at a splendid vantage point to enjoy drinks and snacks, stretch your legs, and chat with fellow travellers about the afternoon's adventures.
- At dusk, the flashlight comes out, giving you the opportunity to see what happens at night in the African bush. Guides are trained to use the flashlight responsibly to minimise disturbance to the game during the safari.
- This guided safari takes you deep into the natural African bush, where you may spot species such as lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalos, leopards, jackals, hyenas, civets, servals, genets, night apes, honey badgers, and more. This is the time to observe active predators and their constantly alert prey. If you are fortunate, you might even see a lion on the prowl under the cover of darkness. This adventure heightens your senses and gets your pulse racing.
- After approximately 1.5 hours, depending on the time of year, your guide will bring you back to a traditional open-air enclosure for a lovely dinner under the stars. The 3-course BBQ meal is complemented by wine, cold beer, and light refreshments.
- Relish the atmosphere as you listen to wildlife calls and watch animals come to drink at the nearby waterhole.
- It is one of the finest experiences - sitting outside beneath the star-studded African night sky, relaxing around an open fire, enjoying a delicious meal, a couple of drinks, and good company. Stay as long as you like, enjoying the campfire, drinks, and conversation.
- Your driver will drop you back at your hotel once the group is ready to disperse, at around 10:00 pm.
