Join this 5-day hiking and trekking tour to Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa. Follow the Naru Moru route through steep mountain terrain to Mackinders Camp, then summit Point Lenana at 4,985 m in time for beautiful sunrise views over Mount Kenya and the surrounding ranges. The trek continues across the mountain to Shipton Camp before descending via Old Moses Camp and Sirimon Gate. This route offers a rewarding experience of the mountain's peaks, glaciers, lakes, gorge valleys, wildlife, and scenic landscapes.

Wake up early at 03:30 am, have a cup of tea, and then begin the hike via the Austrian Hut route to finally reach the summit of Point Lenana (4,985 m).

The itinerary

Day 01

Nairobi Airport to Naru Moru Gate and Met Station

  • After being picked up from Nairobi Airport, you will drive to Naru Moru town in Nyeri County and continue to the Naru Moru Park Gate.

  • After paying the entrance fees, you will be introduced to the other group members joining this same trekking journey and begin the 9.5 km trek to Met Station Hut.

Day 02

Met Station to Mackinders Camp via the Naro Moru Route

  • After breakfast, the team will make preparations before beginning the hike through steep terrain on the Naro Moru route to reach Mackinders Camp. The hike covers about 12.5 km in total, and you will cross the Naro Moru River along the way.

  • You will rest and spend the night at Mackinders Camp.

Day 03

Early Morning Summit of Point Lenana

  • Wake up early at 03:30 am, have a cup of tea, and then begin the hike via the Austrian Hut route to finally reach the summit of Point Lenana (4,985 m). This hike takes about 3 hours, and you will be rewarded with beautiful sunrise views from the top of Mount Kenya and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Day 04

Cross the Mountain to Shipton Camp

  • Today, your group will cross this side of the mountain from the Lenana Point peak and proceed to the other side to reach Shipton Camp (4,200 m).

  • Here, you can enjoy serene nature walks.

  • Spend the night at the camp.

Day 05

Shipton Camp to Old Moses Camp and Descent to Nairobi

  • After breakfast, spend the whole day trekking from Shipton Camp to Old Moses Camp. At the camp, you can have dinner, supper, and rest for the night.

  • The next morning, you will check out of the camp and descend 9 km to Sirimon Gate, where you will sign out of the mountain region. You will then drive to Nairobi to end the tour.

  • Accommodation per head in the camping room at Met Station, Mackinders, Shipton, and Old Moses is 2000 per head per night. Transport is for all, while accommodation is only for clients.

  • This tour is for a group of 3-5 clients. Using the Naru Moru route and coming out through the Sirimon route after summiting at Point Lenana (4,985 m), you can experience the nature of the mountain and enjoy beautiful scenery, including peaks, glaciers, lakes, gorge valleys, wildlife, and the beautiful sunrise at Lenana Point.
