Visit Mount Popa, an extinct volcano rising 1,518 meters above sea level in central Myanmar, about 50 km southeast of Bagan in the Pegu Range. This short tour takes you from Bagan to Mount Popa, with views of toddy (palm wine), local alcohol-producing places, and jaggery-making factories along the way. Climb the mountain for scenic views from the top, then return to Bagan and, if time allows, end the day with a serene boat ride along the Ayeyarwady River, the country's largest river and most important commercial waterway.

The itinerary

Day 01

Mount Popa Climb and Ayeyarwady River Sunset

Pick-up will be at 9 AM from your hotel or accommodation.
Leave for Mount Popa.
On the way, enjoy sights of toddy (palm wine) and other local alcohol-producing places, as well as jaggery-making factories.
Continue towards Mount Popa. Climb up the side of this volcanic mountain for about 45 minutes. Enjoy scenic views from the top of the mountain and stay here for about 30 minutes or so.
Begin to descend the mountain, which can take about 45 minutes.
Have a lunch break at Mount Popa itself.
Head back to Bagan city.
Enjoy sunset views as you set out on a serene boat ride along the Ayeyarwady River, subject to availability of time.
