Travel through Iquitos, the capital city of Peru's Maynas Province, on a 3-day Amazon adventure. Navigate down the Amazon River by boat, visit Fundo Pedrito and Monkey Island, and see caimans, piranhas, giant water lilies, and the famous Paiche or Arapaima Gigas, the largest fish in the Amazon basin. Explore the jungle in search of medicinal plants, insects, monkeys, and many varieties of birds, with more wildlife encounters along the way.

Day by day

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Iquitos and Amazon Lodge Transfer

Pick up from the hotel or airport and transfer to Bellavista Nanay port. On the way, the Peruvian guide will briefly explain Iquitos city and its principal touristic places.
Board a typical boat and navigate down the Amazon River to the lodge.
On the way, visit Fundo Pedrito to see some lakes, caimans, piranhas, giant water lilies, and the most famous and largest fish in the Amazon basin, the Paiche or Arapaima Gigas.
Reception at the lodge with a welcome drink and assignment of the bungalow.
The first activity will be a short jungle exploration to look for medicinal plants, insects, monkeys, and more.
At night, enjoy a boat or canoe ride to experience the magical night and hear the sounds of the jungle.

Day 02

Birdwatching, Fishing, and Monkey Island

Take an early morning walk to watch the sunrise and see many varieties of birds.
Enjoy a fishing tour and search for dolphins.
Visit Monkey Island, a refuge for species of monkeys that are in danger of extinction or have been rescued from predators such as humans, and interact with some of them.
End the day with a nocturnal walk to explore and search for night creatures such as frogs, tarantulas, snakes, and scorpions.

Day 03

Animal Sanctuary Visit and Departure

Optional early excursion.
Visit the animal sanctuary, a wonderful place to observe species that have been rescued from the black market. The sanctuary protects and cares for animals such as monkeys, macaws, parrots, anacondas, turtles, rodents, and many more.
Have a talk about jungle medicines.
