The itinerary

1
Day 01

Milngavie to Drymen through Parks and Countryside

  • Trek through the parks of Milngavie into the countryside on gentle paths, with an opportunity to visit Glengoyne Distillery halfway.

Bed and breakfast accommodation in Drymen.

Day 02

Drymen to Rowardennan via Conic Hill

  • Today takes us through Loch Lomond National Park.
  • From Drymen, go through Garadhban Forest and up onto Conic Hill, with a traverse of the top that is easily reached as a detour. The views over the loch on a clear day are stunning.
  • Continue along the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, with a few more short ups and downs and more fine views before reaching Rowardennan.

Accommodation - bunkhouse/hostel in Rowardennan.

Day 03

Rowardennan to Inverarnan along Loch Lomond

  • We continue along the banks of Loch Lomond, with sections wonderfully close to the loch and interesting, varied terrain underfoot - a diverse and exciting section of the way.

Accommodation - camping at Inverarnan, with all facilities available.

Day 04

Inverarnan to Tyndrum through Glen Falloch

  • This section takes us up through Glen Falloch with a steady incline initially and some ups and downs later. We pass the halfway point of the West Highland Way.

Day 05

Tyndrum to Kingshouse across Rannoch Moor

  • A long day, but on relatively easy tracks, as we walk through the emotive surroundings of Rannoch Moor, with majestic mountains and open vistas. This day gives you a feeling of heading deep into the Highlands.

Accommodation - transfer by taxi to a hostel in Glencoe, with a glorious short drive through the dramatic Glencoe valley and wonderful views of the mountains.

Day 06

Kingshouse to Kinlochleven over the Devil's Staircase

  • Taxi back to Kingshouse for the start of this shorter day, which takes us dramatically over the Devil's Staircase. There is a fair bit of ascent, but it is a nice steady climb, with great panoramic mountain landscapes to enjoy on the way, before descending into Kinlochleven.

Day 07

Kinlochleven to Fort William via Larig Mor and Glen Nevis

  • The final day of the way takes us through the Larig Mor, with fine mountain views all around us, then over to Glen Nevis, where Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, comes dramatically into view on a clear day. The route finishes over military roads and forest paths, then finally into Fort William to the West Highland Way finish point. A short taxi ride takes us to our accommodation.

Day 08

Optional Ben Nevis Climb

  • Option to climb Ben Nevis directly from our bunkhouse in Glen Nevis. At 4,409 feet/1,344 meters above sea level, the climb takes about 6-7 hours.
  • Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK, rising to 1,344 m (4,409 ft). We are happy to guide you to the summit of this fantastic mountain, weather permitting, at a small extra cost.
