Budapest Heritage Sites and City Landmarks

  • Begin the tour by visiting the impressive Heroes' Square, where you will be briefed about the Millennium Monument and its museums. The millennial monument was built in 1896 to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Hungarians' arrival in the Carpathian Basin.

  • Explore City Park behind the square and its many tourist spots, such as Széchenyi Spa, the amazing Vajdahunyad Castle, the Budapest Zoo, and the famous Gundel Restaurant.

  • Proceed along Andrássy Avenue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you will pass by the mansions of former aristocrats, an old music academy, and the Hungarian State Opera House.

  • Visit St. Stephen's Cathedral, followed by a visit to the magnificent neo-gothic Parliament building. It is located on the bank of the Danube and serves as the permanent seat of the National Assembly. The building complex, the biggest of its kind in Hungary, was erected between 1884 and 1904.

  • Cross the Danube River to arrive in the castle district of Buda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buda used to be the capital of Hungary for several hundred years.

  • Touring Buda gives you the chance to visit the neo-gothic Matthias Church, the most beautiful and well-known Catholic church in Budapest. Officially named the Church of Our Lady, this royal cathedral was erected in multiple stages between the 13th and 15th centuries.

  • Enjoy a view of the Danube and the Pest side from Fisherman's Bastion. The architect Frigyes Schulek planned the building in a neo-gothic style, and its seven towers symbolize the seven chieftains who conquered the land for the Hungarians.
