Visit the town of the Dalai Lama as you begin a challenging trek to Indrahar Pass in the Dhauladhar range. Explore the mesmerizing ambience of Triund and Laka Got, and walk along the paths used by shepherds to reach Kangra Valley from Chamba Valley. This 7-day hike combines high mountain scenery, alpine meadows, caves, remote villages, and valley views across one of Himachal Pradesh's most rewarding trekking routes.

During this walk, one also gets a glorious view of the River Ravi, along with the rest of the picturesque landscape.

The itinerary

Day 01

McLeod Ganj to Triund Through Forest Trails

  • Once you reach the meeting point in McLeod Ganj, you will be received by the tour guide and then begin the trek to Triund.

  • The trail passes through a mixed forest of oak, rhododendron, and deodar trees.

  • The first two kilometres involve a gentle climb, but the last leg of the trek has a steep ascent.

  • Triund is a flat meadow on top of a ridge. From here, enjoy the panoramic view of the Dhauladhar range on one side and Kangra Valley on the other.

Night stay in tents or private houses.

Day 02

Triund to Lahesh Cave via Laka Got

This is an acclimatization day.

  • After a short ascent from Triund, traverse a trail from the ridge to reach Laka Got, a temporary shepherd camp.

  • Laka Got is situated at the snout of a small glacier, which is full of snow and ice in early summer, while the snow melts away during the monsoon.

  • From Laka Got, it is a steep ascent for two kilometres over a rocky ridge to reach Lahesh Cave.

Night stay at the camp in Lahesh Cave.

Day 03

Lahesh Cave to Chatta Paro via Indrahar Pass

  • Climb to Indrahar Pass at 4,350 m. An early start is recommended.

  • After climbing Indrahar Pass, have lunch at Nag Dal Lake and then continue trekking to stay at Chatta in a small cave.

Day 04

Chatta Paro to Kuwarsi Village

  • The stretch up to Chatta Nullah is a 6 km descent. Cross the stream and walk past a long pastureland before entering a thick forest of pines.

  • Kuwarsi is a small village surrounded by thickly wooded pine trees. Here, we will rest for the night.

Day 05

Kuwarsi to Sur Along the Mountainside

  • An adventurous six-hour walk where the path has been cut into the vertical mountainside.

  • During this walk, one also gets a glorious view of the River Ravi, along with the rest of the picturesque landscape.

Night stay at Sur village in tents.

Day 06

Sur Village to Bharmour and Chaurasi Temples

  • A short gradual ascent leads to Bharmour, from where one gets to view the famous Chaurasi temples built in one complex, as well as enjoy the natural beauty of this valley.

  • Relax for the rest of the day and enjoy the scenic natural beauty.

Night stay at a hotel in Bharmour.

Day 07

Bharmour to Dharamshala via Chamba

  • Take a short drive from Bharmour to Chamba, where you can view the famous Laxmi Narayan temple and the Bhuri Singh Museum, which also houses Kangra paintings.

  • From here, take a cool night drive back to Dharamshala by jeep.

This will be the end of the tour.
