4-Day Mauritania Desert Tour with the Eye of the Sahara

• Begin the tour at 7:30 or 8:00 am and drive about 470 km from Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, to Atar.

• Stop at Akjoujt for a short tea break after crossing around 250 km.

• Upon arrival in Atar, have lunch at a restaurant, followed by a quick visit to Azougui. Azougui is a town in north-western Mauritania on the Adrar Plateau. In the eleventh century, it was a base for the Almoravid dynasty.

• Check in at the hotel, take some rest, and have dinner.

• Drive for approximately 200 km towards Ouadane with your Mauritanian tour guide. Ouadane is a small town in central Mauritania, renowned for its palm groves, libraries, and mosques.

• On the way, stop to see some cave paintings before arriving in the city.

• Observe the old houses and mosques here before proceeding to see the famous "Eye of the Sahara," or Richat Structure. The Richat Structure is a prominent circular feature in the Sahara's Adrar Plateau near Ouadane, known for its mysterious formation.

• Have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.

• Drive across the sand dunes that lead to Chinguetti, a medieval trading centre in northern Mauritania, and make a quick stop at Tenewechert for tea.

• In Chinguetti, visit the Friday mosque and library, and enjoy the sunset near the dunes.
