The journey
Visit the open desert areas of the Algerian Sahara on a 7-day journey through massive sand dunes, rocky landscapes, and striking sandstone formations. Travel from Djanet to El Bordj, Moula Naga, Tin Merzouga, In-Tehaq, Adjalati, and Tikobawen, discovering prehistoric paintings, engravings, and remarkable rock art sites along the way. Climb the towering red dunes of Tin Merzouga for sweeping views and a cool sunset, spot gazelles near Adjalati, and photograph the dramatic cliffs and natural arches of Tikobawen.
This is one of the most picturesque areas of the Algerian Sahara, where a sea of sand surrounds isolated sandstone columns and arches.

Day by day
From Djanet, our starting point, we will go on a long drive on asphalt roads towards our destination, El Bordj.
For lunch, we can camp somewhere in the middle of the road and then proceed with our drive. Enjoy the rocky landscapes along the way towards El Bordj.
Overnight stay at El Bordj.
Navigate through El Bordj Canyon and rocky landscapes to see prehistoric paintings and engravings.
By midday, we can camp in a shady place for lunch.
After a short rest, we continue driving through massive sand dunes and head towards Moula Naga. This is one of the most picturesque areas of the Algerian Sahara, where a sea of sand surrounds isolated sandstone columns and arches. Take some candid shots here.
From Moula Naga, we will proceed to Oued In Djerane, the principal valley of the Tadrart, which contains a multitude of fine engravings, paintings, and rock art sites. Visit the Bouhedian water point and Headgehog Rocks before finally arriving at Tin Merzouga.
Tin Merzouga offers a breathtaking landscape with plenty of serenity. With massive red sand dunes, the highest in the region, we will climb to the top - not an easy one - for better views and a cool sunset.
From Tin Merzouga, we will go to In-Tehaq to see some beautiful rock shapes and arches.
From In-Tehaq, we will go back on our trail through In Djerane and pass by Wan Zawaten along the way. This is a sight to behold, with mountains and sand dune views at every corner.
Continue our drive, see some more rock art on the way, and stop for lunch at midday.
After lunch and rest in a shady spot, we will continue on towards Adjalati. Get a chance to spot some gazelles whilst here.
From Adjalati, we will drive towards Tikobawen via Tadrart. Here, you can see high rocky cliffs rising from the desert floor and natural arches.
From Tikobawen, we will head towards Taghin, where we can have a midday camp for lunch.
After lunch, we head back to Djanet, followed by rest and a short visit to the town area. Enjoy a farewell dinner at Tegharghart.
