The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arusha to Tarangire's Elephants and Baobabs

  • Meet your local tour guide in Arusha for pick-up and transfer.

  • Proceed to Tarangire National Park for a game drive with a picnic lunch in the park. Tarangire is well known for its huge elephant population and baobab trees. It forms the centre of an annual migratory cycle that includes up to 3,000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest, and 30,000 zebras.

Dinner and overnight at Karatu Flamingo Lodge.

2
Day 02

Into the Endless Plains of Serengeti

  • Depart for Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high-lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

  • Leave the highlands behind and descend into the heart of wild Africa, Serengeti National Park, with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see.

  • Head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. The Seronera River provides a valuable water source to this area.

  • Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park.

Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp.

3
Day 03

Morning Game Drive and Olduvai Gorge

  • Enjoy an early morning game drive.

  • Depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

  • Make a stop at Olduvai Gorge, boasting a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that the anthropologists Dr. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of 'Nutcracker Man' and 'Handy Man', both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

  • Transfer to Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge, where you will have dinner and an overnight stay.

4
Day 04

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha

  • Descend over 600 metres into the crater floor to view wildlife. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area supports a vast variety of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big drawcard of this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot.

  • Visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner and one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here.

  • Transfer to Arusha for dinner and an overnight stay, or take a drop-off at Kilimanjaro Airport.
